Was curious if anyone could provide information on a men's square 14K gold Movado watch? Any idea of the year (1970s ?) or value?. Trying to determine if the gold is worth more than the watch, or if the watch has actual value (rare or mass produced ?). Bracelet does not fit me, so is it heresy to change the old gold bracelet to a leather band? Is there a market for old gold bracelet watch bands? Says Swiss Made, and has 14K stamps in a couple of places.

Never had that situation myself:
1) wouldn't holes need to be drilled to accept spring bars?

2) with the spring bars in place, would there be enough clearance to allow for the thickness of the leather?

To attach lugs wouldn't be that difficult , but IMHO the end product isn't worth it .When shopping around for a gold price(and you should ) have the crystal and movement removed WITH CARE prior to weighing and ask what the weight is so you can calulate the deal yourself . You have enough gold there to get yourself a new hamilton chrono and a modest dinner for two.
