Hi all! I just received a new skx007 but it seems that either the chapter ring or dial is misaligned.

Here are the pics: http://imgur.com/a/uNjkL/

I talked to Marc from Island Watches and he said that he doesn't entertain exchanges because the skx's are known to be somewhat misaligned, and for OCD people like me, I might never be satisfied.

Can you take a look at my pics of the watch (link above) and let me know:

1. What is causing the misalignment
2. Is it easily fixable by sending to a watch repair shop, and
3. Would you return it and get a mako, return and buy another one, or keep and send it to get fixed at a repair shop.

I am having a tough time because I like the watch a lot but misaligned things get to me. It also sucks because when the seconds hand is at 12, the minute hand is not precisely on the right chapter ring mark. I hope it is just a chapter ring issue but when I look at the dial, it seems the blob at the 6 mark is crooked, although it could just be my eyes playing tricks on me.

Many thanks for your help!

I dont know anything about the vendor's comment regarding SKX's commonly being misaligned but it's clear this is a catastrophe and needs to be rectified asap. The quickest solution would be to have your eyes adjusted so that they no longer notice the slightly off-centre appearance of the watch. (ps... kidding!)

It could be fixed but it looks like its the dial that requires replacing as the outer ring appears to line up with the chapter ring and that poses a problem. You might have to find someone who has 2 or 3 of those dials that can be test fit to see if they line up any better. Or, unload it and buy a watch from a bricks & mortar vendor where you can actually see the watch first.

I'm one of the biggest Seiko honks there is, but this situation is nothing new and its drives me nuts. I've had 2 SKX's and both had misaligned bezels. Ended up modding and selling both.

Thing is, you can walk into a WalMart, Target or Kohls today and peruse the Timex and Casio displays with watches costing a fraction of a $200 Seiko and not fine a single watch with a misaligned bezel. I love Seiko but this is a known issue with them and they never seem to do anything about it.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It certainly drives me nuts too. Great watch but I can't shake the misalignment. And Marc from Long Island said he'd only do a refund and not an exchange. He said the 007, 009, mako and ray all have some degree of misalignment. I was surprised about him including the orient models. I had a mako and never noticed anything wrong with it. Slightly annoyed that Marc wouldn't check for an skx with good alignment, but he said they are all off some amount. Kind of sucks. Makes part of me not want to get any seikos because of this issue. The other part of me thinks I'll order a modded skx and plead with the modder to make sure it is perfectly aligned. Maybe from artifice horoworks or somewhere else. Or I'll get a mako. Very unfortunate that I can't get an aligned skx! I should just change my vision up like Mikey said. I should definitely contact Seiko, as I feel it is my duty, although seems like nothing had been done so far about it. The watch hunt continues...
