Review of the Omega Watch Company iPhone App

There's good news this week for Omega watch fans who use the Apple mobile OS platform (iPhone, iPod Touch, etc.) - Omega has just released their official app:

Image

The lion's share of functionality provided by this app is essentially a mobile Omega product catalog. In this capacity, the app functions well and is quite comprehensive.

After you select Ladies or Gent's collection, simply select the product line you're interested in:

Then select the model you wish to see:

In addition to the catalog photo of the watch, there's a data sheet which can be useful:

Of course, if you find a model you like you'd want to purchase it, right? Well, Omega includes a store locator in the app which will bring up a list of stores closest to your current location:

There's a few added novelties with the app which provide some additional entertainment value - a Wallpapers section, and a unique, virtual DeVille Hour Vision:

The wallpaper section has a few nice photos of Omega Ambassadors, and a couple of non-catalog watch photos. I'd really like to see Omega "beef up" this section of the app with more photos:

The DeVille Hour Vision bonus feature was fun to play with - it will accurately display the current time and date, and even has a functioning sweep seconds hands (very useful for synchronizing to your own watch to):

Tap the face of the DeVille Hour Vision, and you're taken to a photograph of the the watch's display back:

It's more than a static photo however - just tilt your device, and the rotor on the Hour Vision's Caliber 8611 will spin just as would on the real watch, and allows the user to see all the marvelously decorated areas of the movement. It's pretty slick:

I'm glad to see Swatch Group and Omega have finally come out with an app for the iOS platform. This first release was very well done, if perhaps a bit pedestrian. Hopefully they'll continue to enhance it with added functionality. The Omega Watch Company app is a free download from iTunes.

Really cool app! I used it the other day to help a friend who is looking to buy his first high-end watch. Very convenient!
