Are there any Rolex steel models for men in the 1-$4,000 MSRP price range anymore?
I'll answer your rhetorical question: none that are new! For that matter, you'd be lucky to find most any Rolex model used for under $4000 if they're recent in LNIB condition. Maybe a DateJust 116200 basic model, but as soon as you add option like a Jubilee bracelet or WG bezel forget it!

I'd say the list is fairly accurate except for Ebel - I'd move them into the Tag Heuer/Raymond Weil category.

New Ebel 1911 line utilizes inhouse movements and complications. They even make tourbillons inhouse. I think Ebel is at least in the Omega category, if not higher. But definitely not with TAG or Raymond Weil. :eek:hmy:

They have a cheaper quartz range though... but then again so do Omega and Breitling.

I wouldn't consider Invicta a luxury brand, cuz they water down their better high end watches with so many $99 ones. However, I have a couple that I would hold up against any watch ever made and I own quite a few high end watches. They are the original Sub-aqua Nomas.

They are flawless and keep perfect time. So I guess my vote is not Luxury but high quality and great value if you choose carefully...but lately the already questionable quality has gone downhill, dispite all the hype from Invicta.

I have to add a couple of photos. This one gets the most wrist time.

I agree with this quote - I should have added that to my entry earlier - I think the same way about Invicta watches. I am also a Rolex owner as well. I think a lot of the Rolex's out there are more jewelpieces than daily beaters, so I give a bigger thumbs up to Invicta's watches because they can all be daily beaters.

My wife thanks you guys. Interestingly this watch named "Donna Of The Rocks" was made in Geneva. Unlike most of the Swiss Made watches that tout %51 Swiss this one is %100 Swiss Made. It sports the Geneva stamp on the case-back as well as the bracelet. In fact it also sports a Swiss serial number on the case-back and the bracelet also. The diamonds are pure White, evenly matched in size and color. Sapphire Chrystal with diamonds on the crown as well. I am not saying that this is some insanely expensive watch but with over 2.5ct's it's rare(not many made) and has all those thing that purist swear is a must in a watch. To be honest this is the first ALL SWISS watch I have ever seen Invicta produce.

I think there's a confusion here between luxury vs. exclusivity/prestige. Luxury is the opposite of necessity. Neither Rolex nor Invicta are necessary to own in order to tell time, so that would make both luxury items.
On the other hand Rolex is more prestigious than Invicta. PP, VC and AP watches, among others, are more exclusive and arguably more prestigious than Rolex, but all of them are luxury brands-by definition.

Agreed Mike, all are luxury brands by definition of the term "luxury".....but then I guess we could start a poll on what we would consider a prestigious brand. And being that the word "prestigious" is just another subjective term, we start all over....oh what fun we have here at the ol' WTF:biggrin:

Charlie,
I concur. "Prestigious" is a relative term. I would concentrate more on the term-"exclusive". "Exclusive", in this case, would define a brand not readily affordable and/or available to the middle class folk as opposed to wealthy and rich folk.
I define "wealthy" and "rich" as some one who does not have to work for a living in order to maintain a lavish life style and is able to afford most anything that is offered in the luxury market. This excludes most well-off working professionals but includes anyone who's net worth is in the $35-45million. This a person who's yearly income is about $3-10million, depending on whether they are living off the interest or actually "working/investing" to make more.
This brings us back as to what watch they would consider an Exclusive-Luxury brand. Again it depends on the individual but I'm pretty sure that Invicta would not be available at the stores that they would potentially shop at and Rolex would almost certainly be included.
My point is that there's is almost no prestige and/or exclusivity associated with Invicta and there's obviously some prestige & exclusivity associated with
Rolex, Patek & other arguably overpriced watches.
In a nut shell, a lot of watch brands are luxurious but not all are exclusive and/or prestigious but Invicta definitely falls in to the "luxury" category. Simply because you don't NEED one and you can find a way to tell time w/out one.
Mike
P.S. I actually own & like some Invictas.
