Found this link which shows how to use all three crowns @ the 2-3-4 Hours Respectively...

Operating Instruction:

Wind watch and alarm: crown at 3h.
Set time: pull crown at 3h and set time. If you set the time reverse and pass the alarm time, this will be set reverse simultaneously.
Set alarm: crown at 2h. The alarm time can only be set reverse, setting forward is inhibited by a freewheel.
Enable alarm: push pusher at 4h.
Disable alarm: pull pusher at 4h.

 

How solid does that watch feel? I saw one at a Swap meet but passed since it just felt... rickety? The movement didn't seem tight, all the crowns were loose turning, and didn't seem to lock when depressed. Is that indicative of the movement or was my sample just bad? I'm interested in that particular type of Bulova.

Its a magic watch
The center crown should whizz round when alarm sounds, I think ONLY Bulova did that as a kind of additional "vibrator" wake up

Here's a video that shows the Bulova Wristalarm "Made in Germany" by Junghans. A short time after world war 2, Junghans in the Black Forest invented a wristalarm with two crowns and one additional knob. The name of the calibre was J89. The models for Germany had 20 Jewels, the export version for the USA only 17 Jewels under the name "Bulova Wristalarm" (import taxes were quoted by the count of jewels), 18000 A/h.

Here is a Junghans, 20 Jewels Version of the same watch....

 

Adam, any idea how to date this watch ?, all I find is a Serial number at the edge of the Case, No "L*", I assume it doesn't show it since it was made by Jungians for Bulova, wonder if there's a way to date it by the Serial# ?....

The watch can not be officially dated, other than the years it was in production....

The movement J89 "Mini-Vox" with alarm was produced from 1951 until 1958. We cannot give you any further information, when the Bulova watch was produced.
