Good morning gentlemen,
Could someone please tell me what year (ie serial no letter) rolex switched from the zenith movement to their own in house movement.
Did the dial change at the same time or was there some overlap?
thank you in advance, I am looking for a late zenith!

I'm pretty sure it was 2000, but I'd have to look it up. Maybe someone here will verify that.

As to change in the dial, yes it did and there is no overlap of the different dials. The reason being the biggest difference is the 3 and 9 subdial stems moved from being inline with the 3 and 9 to 7 degrees above it. A small difference, but very easy to spot when you look at the dial. If the 3, 9 and 3 & 9 subdial stem all line up, it's a Zenith (or fake). If the stems are slightly above the line from 3-9, it's a Rolex movement.
