I have a Croton digital LED from the early 70's from my grandfather's store. I think list was over 600 on it. it actually still works, but drains batteries very quickly.

I think this is a bit different than many WIS normal thoughts of "digital". The watch ad you linked was for a digital watch in that it displayed the time in digits (just absolute numbers, not hands on a dial where the hands could be between the numbers). Most of us think of digital as in electronics as they don't work in fractions either. I believe we're co-opted the term incorrectly. Much like how the term "computer" in the 1940s and before referred to a person who's job was to perform calculations. Now, the term means a machine designed for calculations, entertainment, etc.
