Hi, Help needed yet again please. Have come across a rather nice Bulova which winds but runs fast. The seller states it need cleaning. Being sold as reapair/parts. Very low price so I am tempted but only if a clean will definitely cure the fast running.
Could there be other faults that cause fast running and is it normally expensive to fix. I attach pic. TIA. jack

As no one else is replying here I'll make my guess- a cleaning will not slow it down.
Now a full service (clean, lube, regulate) should.

But first I'd suspect that maybe, just maybe, the watch got magnetized; if so a $33 de-magnetiser device will greatly assist in slowing it down.

Some of us have other things to do. To answer jackteet's question though, generally a hairspring that has been magnetized will cause it to run fast as will a dirty hairspring. The demagnetizer is always a good thing to have around as it is a 'cheap fix' for these problems most of the time.

Cleaning a watch and demagnetizing it is always a good starting point for finding running issues with a watch. There are lots of reasons why a watch would run fast. I would not think that an experienced watch maker would have any problem finding out why.
