New old stock, with original shark skin band and rear seal, original box and even the price tag!

One sure can't fault your taste in watches, you've got some beauties there. I've just gotta get a Woodie someday but it will be hard to find one as nice as that one.
Thank you. I do think that they are quite unique examples for the beginning of a collection, but I already went through the "buy every one you find" phase in the early days of my Bulova collecting. :001_smile:

...I have a gold-plated Accutron in that same style case (I've seen it referred to as 'Sputnik'); it's case number 3141, date code N1 and has a 2182 movement...and not in anywhere near the condition of this one. I *think* that SS watch is Swiss made and probably has a 2182F movement (I've seen one or two of those on the bay before). Mine does not have the 'Safirglas' crystal (that, I think, is also a Swiss hallmark), but it does have some sort of glass/mineral crystal rather than plastic...
(...does anyone have a later ABC parts catalog and/or supplement that includes case 3141? I'd like to have some sort of idea of what I would need to look for in a replacement crystal...)

On the nos watch the dial has the words 'Safirglas'. Does that refer to the crystal? A move away from the plastic?
Yes, I believe it does. I've not found anything official from Bulova, but a Google search revealed one that sold a while back and it was represented as having a sapphire crystal. It is definitely not plastic.

Me too, but I've seen the gold plated model referred to as Date & Day "AO" and "AW" in two separate Bulova ads.

I think "Sputnik" or "Safirglas" sound way better than two letter designations, so I'm sticking with those two.:cool1:

Yes. When you push the crown lightly it shows the time. If you push it further it counts down the seconds. For the most part you wear it "dead" until you need to see the time.
