There are a lot of enthusiasts of the Bond SMP so I was wondering to what extent lovers of the 2531.80 or 2220.80 were influenced by the connection with Bond? How close were you to opting for the 2254.50 or indeed 2255.80 but that the link with arguably the most famous spy on the screen just swung the deal in the direction of the Bond SMP?

Y'all be well now pals

It's thanks to the Bond movies, I got to know this specific model... But it's only years later, I got the chance to learn about its qualities over here. If it wasn't for this place, I wouldn't know the difference between the co-axial model and the previous one...

But the fact Bond wears one, does give it some kind of aura IMO...

I haven't voted because I do not own a "Bond" watch.

However, I would like to say that both the Bond SMP and PO are stunning watches in their own right and top value for money too.

I liked it before but I was particularly enamoured with the 45.5mm Black faced and rubber strapped PO after the third scene in Casino Royale. Before that I was more interested in the Orange version. Seeing the actual watch worn by Daniel Craig at Omegamania last year made it even more desirable to me in that Black/rubber combination. So, I guess I was influenced.

If it hadn't have been for Goldeneye on the Nintendo N64, I would not have got hooked on James Bond and in turn Omega. Otherwise I would be one of those foolish people who think Rolex is the pinnacle of watch ownership whilst still wearing Japanese Quartz watches (which I really like by the way!).

So yes I was influenced by Cmdr J. Bond aka 007

I make no connection between any products and the paid celebrity endorsements associated with them. In fact, I think at times, they can actually damage a company's reputation. Case in point: O.J. Simpson, Brittney Spears, Tara Reid, etc. The list goes on. Then couple that with celebrities aligning themselves with politicians, Mike Farrell, Rosie O'Donnel, Sean Penn, Barbar Streissdand (sp?), some of which utterly embarressed themselves, etc., it can lead to consumers boycotting the products which they endorse to make a statement.

HUH? I don't follow Mr Finder:confused1:

I can't imagine James Bond being or having a negative connotation for
Omega. the Rolex community is still enjoying the notoriety they enjoyed from the Sub's presence earlier in the Bond series..

I just don't have one, (a Bond Omega)

I realize James Bond is fictional; but, there is a corporation and/or author behind it. In this instance, is there any harm by having Omega stand behind James Bond? No, not in this situation.

But what I meant about celebrity endorsements can damage a company, etc......

Look at Nike for example. They have Tiger Woods as a spokesman. Does that cause any harm? No. He is a good athlete, and keeps out of trouble. Now look at Michael Vick. Does Nike still sponsor him? No. They terminated his contact. If they did retain him, they would feel the wrath of consumers boycotting their products. Think of OJ Simpson. When was the last time anyone saw him endorse any products? I do not think companies would dare hire him.

That is how I meant how celebrities endorsing products can actually harm their reputations.

I voted "tipped the balance"...

I love dive watches in general and I'm also a big Bond fan. I chose the 2220.80 mainly because of it's distinct styling. I am intrigued with the co-axial movement and I just love the looks and comfort of the Bond bracelet.

Regards,

Steve

I was on a trip for three days with a First Officer who wore a LE Bond, so I had to look at it constantly. Did a couple of weeks of research and bought the 2220.80. Linnie and I are 007 fans so it added some coolness, but it was the watch itself that I liked. It's a fabulous piece of work. Funny that it's now lost the daily wrist battle to the LE Speedy.

Given that it's not merely a honeymoon you're enjoying with your Speedy Mike, I'd say that one's taste does change over time. Back though most of '06 I'd never have considered a manually-wound, date-free chronograph but once I bought the 3573.50 I couldn't and didn't want to wear anything else on my wrist. As you may know, beyond perhaps a De Ville Small Seconds on a dress-up occasion, the only watches I'd want to buy now are Speedies.

I have had days when I had entertained ownership of the Bond SMP but the character has nothing to do with it.

unfortunately I think O.J. endorses fake Rolexes:lol::lol:

sorry, got off topic just a bit... that came to mind.

If I remember the original spirit of the question was did the J.B. character influence your decision to buy, I said no because I don't have one.
but if I did buy one of the "Bond" models it would be because I like the watch , not for it's association of the aforementioned.. that might be a cool side benefit, but not why unless I was going for a commemorative, collectible edition.

No influence.

I wanted the Planet Ocean years before the last bond film was released. It was on a billboard (in orange, which was cool several years ago, but loosing ground now in my opinion) along I-95 on the North-bound side. I'd see this sign every weekend when I headed up to CT for the weekend...

It wasn't until recently that I was able to try one on and buy it for myself. It is purely coincidence that I got the black on rubber; however I did get the rubber for my GMT because it looks cool and is super comfortable to wear. I'm also not crazy about the TAG-link inspired bracelet for the PO. I have several NATO bracelets I have been wearing as well as the rubber, but I just don't care for the overly rounded profile of the PO steel bracelet.

I think Bond copied me!:scared:

Hi All,
I voted that Bond connection just tipped my choice :001_smile: It's my very first Omega, and decision was firm that it's gonna be SMP, but i was choosing from classic SMP, Bond, and GMT peaces. Eventually Bond connection together with 2500 movement won in my case :001_smile: What i can say? There is no regrets

Mr KEM

A very warm welcome to WTF and OMEGALand. Glad you found us and indeed that you enjoy your Co-Axial Bond. I like the subtle features on the watch which distinguish it from its' originating masterpiece, the 2531.80. The slightly longer hands, raised markers and red Seamaster legend give it a fresh appearance and appeal.

Hope you'll be able to share some pictures with us - it's a WIS thing you know - loving pictures of watches :biggrin:

We'd love you to drop in daily too and join in the talk and fun of OMEGALand :001_smile:

Have a nice day now

That'll be good Mr KEM.

The best way would be to use a photo host and the most user-friendly is Photobucket. Here's a quick and easy guideline -

POSTING PICS

Posting pictures is very easy. Here's what you do -

1. Register with a picture host like photobucket.com
This is a free service for up to 1,000 images.

2. Once registered, use the choose or browse function on your photobucket homepage to locate the image you wish to post, from your hard drive

PLEASE REMEMBER to set the maximum size of the image
800 x 600 is best
Anything else would make viewing and accessing the page for users difficult.

3. Click SELECT and then UPLOAD

4. Once uploaded, simply copy the fourth option under each image on your photobucket homepage and paste it into the body of your text here. This fourth link is the Image Tag.

Hope this helps...... unless of course you already know it.:001_smile:

Be well now
