OMEGA De Ville Co-Axial Escapement Limited Edition

Launched in 1999, the Omega Co-Axial calibre 2500 was introduced to the world initially, in three limited edition individually-numbered models of which 1,000 were in red gold, a further 1,000 in yellow gold and 100 in platinum. The world’s first movement to feature a Co-Axial escapement has been heralded as one of the century’s major inventions in mechanical watches. With its’ design inspired by the Central Tourbillion watch, the merit of this high precision chronometer is the long-term stability of its regulating system. Notable features of this watch include the circular-grained Geneva waves, twelve-sided dial with a 0.5mm raised central zone, domed applied Roman numerals at quarter hours, fitted faceted hour markers with integral Superlite dots and luminous skeleton leaf-shaped hands. The screw-on back is engraved with the De Ville medallion, the legend bearing the words “ Co-Axial Escapement ” and the limited edition numbering. The edged alligator strap comes with matching deployment clasp.

OMEGA DE VILLE HOUR VISION
159 YEARS IN THE MAKING

To celebrate the launch of its exclusive in-house manufacture calibres 8500/8501, OMEGA proudly unveils an exceptional collection of revolutionary timepieces within the De Ville range: Hour Vision. The 41 mm case of the De Ville Hour Vision adopts the current style for larger timepieces and glistens with eye-catching details that proudly announce OMEGA’s presence in the highest echelons of watch making. The calibre 8500/8501 pays tribute to a new and luxurious look for OMEGA’s movements for the third millennium.

Four sapphire glass apertures on the sides of the case, as well as the more traditional sapphire glass case back, fill the heart of the watch with light showcasing the mechanical pedigree and the beautiful details of the rhodium calibre 8500 or rhodium and 18 Ct red gold calibre 8501.

The Hour Vision sets out to be different embodying the new direction of manufacturing for OMEGA without forsaking the classic good looks of the De Ville family. Details such as the four glass openings located on either side of the winding crown, at 9 o’clock and between the lugs of the traditional round De Ville case shape, give the watch a contemporary and sophisticated feel as well as highlighting the technical superiority of the watch, both inside and out. The glass apertures are not just an attractive feature but a technical breakthrough: an entire sapphire case is set into the stainless steel or 18 Ct red gold case so that the watch is still waterproof to 100 metres and shock-resistant up to 5000 G.

On the dial finely honed details show the complexity of workmanship that has gone into every element of this timepiece. The 18 Ct red gold Hour Vision is available either with a brown or silver dial. The stainless steel version is presented with either a black or silver dial. On all the models the most striking feature is the grooved rhodium plated hour track complemented by elegantly faceted solid gold hour markers. Light catches the diamond-polished facets of the hour markers as the central seconds hand sweeps around the dial. The hour and minute hands are both faceted and diamond polished along the length of their sides creating an elegant contrast and play on brushed and polished finishes, in either 18 Ct red gold or 18 Ct white gold, to match the colour of the case. The date window positioned at three o’clock is framed with an applied diamond polished 18 Ct red gold or 18 Ct white gold frame. A discreet minute track runs alongside the outer rim of the dial and the OMEGA logo is applied in either 18 Ct red gold or 18 Ct white gold, depending on the model. The dial is clearly visible through the anti-reflective coating applied to both sides of the sapphire crystal glass.

All the components of the manufacture-made calibers have been created exclusively for OMEGA from inception. Not content with just creating an exclusive manufacture calibre, OMEGA has optimised the precision of their proprietary Co-Axial Escapement and free-sprung balance by improving its design and using a larger (13 lines) sized movement. This officially certified chronometer (COSC) movement has a 60-hour power reserve stored in two barrels in series and is driven by energy from the bi-directional winding rotor. Together they offer excellent stability to the watch’s going rate over long periods and enhance the performance of a truly superlative chronometer. Changing the hour is simplified by a mechanism that allows the hour hand to be adjusted without interrupting the movement of the other two hands, ideal for precise re-setting when traveling through time zones. The “Côtes de Genève” in arabesque, blackened screws and the use of precious metals highlight the refined nature of this new calibre. For all the attention to aesthetics and mechanical superiority, this watch has a strong practical streak and is poised to be the solid platform from which OMEGA will develop future modular complications and additional features.

The De Ville Hour Vision is presented either on a black or brown alligator leather strap that is integrated into the case between the newly designed lugs. The strap features an insert to avoid strain and cracking of the leather at the joint with the lugs and is fastened with a fold-over clasp (in either 18 Ct red gold or stainless steel) ensuring the watch remains securely fastened yet offers maximum comfort to the wearer. The metal bracelets (including a new patented screw and pin system allowing a very easy adjustment) feature an entirely new design and look and, set in the metal bar clasp is a butterfly deployant with an 18 Ct gold polished OMEGA logo.

OMEGA DE VILLE CO-AXIAL CHRONOGRAPH

The launch of the OMEGA De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph marked the first time that OMEGA’s revolutionary Co-Axial escapement was used in a prestige column-wheel chronograph movement. This was the OMEGA calibre 3313, chronometer-certified and self-winding with date, hour, minute and continuous small seconds, 12 hour and 30 minute totalisers and a central chronograph seconds hand. This exceptional movement offers a power reserve of 55 hours and is meticulously-finished with fine circular graining, the decorative Geneva waves, rhodium-plated surfaces, gold-plated engravings and a blued-steel centre screw, all of which are visible through the sapphire crystal case back that has become a hallmark of many OMEGA watches featuring the Co-Axial escapement.

Applied facetted hour markers and applied OMEGA symbol and name adorn the domed back, silver or white dials in company with the luminous facetted diamond-polished Alpha hands with blued-steel continuous seconds and chronograph hands on the silver dial.

The OMEGA De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph is available in polished 18-carat red or yellow gold, steel with white, black or silver dials and a special St-Moritz Edition. Exuding class and prestige, these exceptional timepieces are further enhanced by the brickwork-effect bracelet, the design of which is based on a 1950s model with rows of 5 links. Matching Alligator straps with push-button deployment clasps are also available and the water resistance is given at 100metres/330feet.

OMEGA DE VILLE X2 BIG DATE

Setting new standards in master watchmaking for the third millennium, Omega’s exclusive Co-Axial Escapement technology now makes its appearance with an imposing square De Ville X2 Big Date Co-Axial chronometer. Available in 18-ct. red gold, this noble metal is a fitting presentation for the superlative De Ville timepiece. The X2 was inspired by the 1951 Cosmic that as watch enthusiasts will remember, was originally housed in a smaller (33mm x 33mm) case. The model was re-launched in 2001 as a limited edition “Museum” piece of which only 1,952 examples were produced. Once again adopting the Cosmic’s distinctive styling, the De Ville X2 Big Date offers a fresh take on this classic to complement the extraordinary heart that beats inside. The X2 Big Date is a manly-sized timepiece (35mm x 35mm) with a twist that uses striking contrasts with panache, producing a bold, new take on luxury watchmaking.

The X2’s name refers to the juxtaposition of the audaciously large gold Roman and Arabic numerals on the three-hour markers and in the big date window. Self-assured design gestures such as this, combined with fine workmanship are the key to the X2’s intriguing looks. On the dial the three dimensional, highly polished applied numerals, Omega logo and name are all crafted out of 18-ct red gold. The black dial offsets the white painted “railway” minute track and date numbers. Exemplary of the level of detail on the dial, the ‘Alpha’-styled minute and hour hands are facetted and diamond-polished and like the seconds hand are all fashioned in 18-ct red gold. In the Big Date window, which is framed by an 18-ct red gold border, two overlapping discs ensure easy reading of the date.

The contrast of the play of light between the brushed-gold finish and the lustre of the polished edges soften the strong lines of the robust case. Even the lugs are facetted and then polished and brushed to match the finishes of the case and together, create a harmonious whole.
The power behind this stunning watch is provided by a self-winding Omega calibre 2610. This officially certified chronometer (COSC) movement has a 48-hour power reserve and is fitted with Omega’s proprietary Co-Axial Escapement and the Omega free-sprung balance. Together they offer excellent stability to the watch’s going rate over long periods and enhance the performance of a truly superlative chronometer. Luxurious finishes such as decorated bridges confirm the prestigious nature of this movement. Even the back of the watch is decorated with a vertically brushed satin finish and a medallion of Chronos, the Greek god of time, and the legend ‘X2 Co-Axial Escapement’.
For all the attention to aesthetics and mechanical superiority, this watch has a strong practical streak. The familiar facetted and diamond-polished Alpha hands are coated with a luminous finish to ensure optimum visibility at night. The domed sapphire crystal is scratch-resistant and has a multiple-layer, anti-reflective treatment on the inside of the glass and is water resistant to 50 meters/167ft. Like all De Villes featuring the Co-Axial movement, the X2 Big Date comes with a three-year guarantee. The watch is presented on a high-gloss black alligator leather strap that is integrated into the case between the lugs and a brushed 18-ct red gold fold-over clasp ensures the watch remains securely fastened yet offers maximum comfort to the wearer.

OMEGA OLYMPIC TIMELESS COLLECTION
– DE VILLE CO-AXIAL CHRONOGRAPH

OMEGA has an unparalleled history in sports timekeeping. As the first company ever appointed to be Official Timekeeper for all Olympic disciplines, OMEGA supplied 30 chronographs and counters for use at the Olympic Games held in Los Angeles in 1932. Such was the OMEGA timekeepers’ expertise that the brand with the Greek letter was chosen to serve as Official Timekeeper at twenty-one Olympic Games over the course of the 20th century—more than any other company in the history of the games.

The OMEGA Olympic Timeless Collection recalls the very beginnings of OMEGA’s timekeeping exploits with a design that harks back to the chronographs produced by the brand in the 1930s and first used at the 1932 Los Angeles Games. Each of the chronographs in the Olympic Timeless Collection features the red OMEGA name and symbol found on the original 1932 chronographs. To further underscore OMEGA’s return to its traditional role at the Olympic Games are the Olympic rings symbol, the OMEGA name and symbol and the inscription “Official Timekeeper”, stamped on the case back. Perhaps the most striking feature of these Olympic Timeless Collection chronographs is one that also represents a remarkable first for OMEGA. An innovative application of nanotechnology has enabled OMEGA to integrate the most famous symbol of the Olympic Games into the design of the Olympic Timeless Collection. On each of the six watches, the five interlocking coloured rings are placed as the counterweight of the central seconds hand. Reproduced with extraordinary precision and fidelity, this historic symbol celebrates the Olympic Games and exemplifies OMEGA’s unparalleled record of innovation in watchmaking and sports timekeeping.

DE VILLE CO-AXIAL CHRONOGRAPH

The De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph of the OMEGA Olympic Timeless Collection has a white dial, elegantly set off by the thematic design reference to OMEGA and the Olympic Games. The De Ville Co-Axial collection represents the fine art of watchmaking in all respects. The design of the case recalls the popular OMEGA models of the fifties and all models feature the revolutionary OMEGA Co-Axial Escapement, which offers better long-term accuracy. The De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph of the OMEGA Olympic Collection is powered by OMEGA calibre 3313, a self-winding chronograph movement with official chronometer certification and a 55-hour power reserve. Protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the inside and water-resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet, it is available exclusively with a brown alligator leather strap and stainless-steel foldover clasp.

The OMEGA Olympic Timeless Collection will undoubtedly be of immense appeal and interest to collectors of Olympic Games memorabilia, admirers of classic timepieces as well as collectors of OMEGA chronographs in particular.

OMEGA DE VILLE CO-AXIAL CHRONOMETER
LIMITED EDITION IN WHITE GOLD

Launched in 1999, the De Ville Chronometer in White Gold was produced in a limited edition of 1,000 units. It followed the limited number editions of the chronometer in red and yellow gold both of which were introduced in equally similar production runs and just 100 examples which were made in platinum. This was the first time that the revolutionary COSC-certified, self-winding Co-Axial OMEGA calibre 2500, one of the most significant innovations in the history of mechanical timekeeping was used in a watch. In it were to be found, numerous small details and the highest quality standards, including circular graining, Geneva waves, rhodium-plating and gold engravings, making the De Ville Chronometer a top-of-the-range mechanical watch.

Housed in an 18-carat white gold case, sitting beneath the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, was a silvered dial with raised inner section, in the style of certain exceptional models of the Constellation. More importantly, the new range of De Ville which was to encompass a chronograph, small seconds model, power reserve and other specialties was to herald the advent of the De Ville as being the new flagship range of Omega’s collection of desirable timepieces. The attractive feuille hands with luminescent inserts set off the dial perfectly, contrasting against the raised luminescent hour markers and Roman numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock. The De Ville Chronometer Limited Edition in White Gold was available with a black alligator strap with deployment clasp and came in a special wooden presentation case complete with its’ COSC certificate

OMEGA DE VILLE X2 RED SQUARE

It was in 1899, that for the first time the Swiss watchmaker Omega established itself in Russia with the delivery of the official watch, a Lepine 18’’’ LOB, of the Riga electric tramway company. One hundred and seven years later, Omega opens a flagship store in the heart of Moscow in the famous GUM department store, located on the Red Square. This Neo-Russian building was built at the end of the 19th century by Alexander Pomerantsev and takes up almost the entire eastern side of the Red Square. Today, the GUM counts more than one thousand designer and luxury boutiques. To celebrate the opening of its Boutique in Moscow, Omega presents a special edition: the De Ville X2 “Red Square”.

Setting new standards in master watchmaking for the third millennium, Omega’s exclusive Co-Axial Escapement technology powers the movement of this imposing square De Ville special edition the X2 “Red Square” Co-Axial chronometer. Only available in 18-ct. red gold, this noble metal is a fitting presentation for the superlative De Ville timepiece. The X2 was inspired by the 1951 Cosmic that as watch enthusiasts will remember, was originally housed in a smaller (33mm x 33mm) case. The model was re-launched in 2001 as a limited edition “Museum” piece of which only 1,951 examples were produced. Once again adopting the Cosmic’s distinctive styling, the De Ville X2 “Red Square” offers a fresh take on this classic to complement the extraordinary heart that beats inside. The X2 “Red Square” is a manly-sized timepiece (35mm x 35mm) with a twist that uses striking contrasts with panache, producing a bold, new take on luxury watchmaking.

The X2’s name refers to the juxtaposition of the audaciously large gold Roman and Arabic numerals on the four-hour markers. Self-assured design gestures such as this, combined with fine workmanship are the key to the X2’s intriguing looks. On the dial the three dimensional, highly polished applied numerals, Omega logo and name are all crafted out of 18-ct red gold.

The 18-ct red gold dial has a vertically brushed-gold finish which offsets the black painted “railway” minute track, with its polished and brushed minute-circle, and the polished window of the small seconds’ sector at six o’clock. Exemplary of the level of detail on the dial, the ‘Alpha’-styled minute and hour hands are facetted and diamond-polished and like the small seconds skeleton hand are all fashioned in 18-ct red gold.

The contrast of the play of light between the lustre of the polished finish and the brushed-gold edges soften the strong lines of the robust case.

The case also bears the limited series number of the piece which is produced in a limited series of 99 pieces, only available at Omega boutiques.

Like all De Villes featuring the Co-Axial movement, the X2 “Red Square” comes with a three-year guarantee. The watch is presented on a high-gloss black alligator leather strap that is integrated into the case between the lugs and a brushed 18-ct red gold fold-over clasp ensures the watch remains securely fastened yet offers maximum comfort to the wearer.

OMEGA DE VILLE CO-AXIAL COLLECTION
- SMALL SECONDS LIMITED EDITION

For Baselworld 2004, OMEGA presented two new limited-edition models in the De Ville Co-Axial collection that added two classic watch complications to the newly-established Co-Axial movements. One of these was the Small Seconds and the other, the Big Date. Both models were available in yellow, red or white gold.

The Small Seconds Limited Edition was housed in the familiar De Ville Co-Axial case which took certain design elements from the popular OMEGA models of the 1950s. The 38.7mm case with matching polished bezel was water-resistant to 100m/330ft. Each model had a domed silver dial with 12 facets, a raised central zone and applied, facetted hour markers that matched the colour of the case. Facetted, diamond-polished Alpha hour and minute hands filled with Super Luminova inserts and a blued small seconds hand in a sub dial at 6 o’clock completed the dial.

The De Ville Co-Axial Small Seconds was fitted with the OMEGA calibre 2300 which featured the Co-Axial escapement and free-sprung balance, both proprietary OMEGA innovations which offered stability in the going rate of the watch over a longer term. Power reserve was given at 48 hours as confirmed by the official COSC chronometer certificates.

The Small Seconds complication had a timeless look as a first limited series. The countersunk small seconds dial nestles perfectly between the 6 o’clock hour marker and the axis of the hour and minute hands with the blue-steel small seconds hand read off against 12 simple strokes on a background of fine concentric circles.

Production was strictly limited to 699 pieces in each type of gold and the watches were delivered with a brown alligator strap and matching foldover clasp. Each had a sapphire caseback revealing the movement in meticulous detail with the individual number engraved in the form of 00X/699. The low production numbers ensured that these watches were a true connoisseur collection as a combination of classic design and the state of art in mechanicam watch movements.

OMEGA DE VILLE BYZANTIUM

The OMEGA De Ville Byzantium launched in July 2004 represented a striking new design that was symbolic of Omega’s global presence, which spans numerous regions and cultures. The name had been specifically chosen for its association with the one city that has through the ages been the meeting point of East and West: known today as Istanbul, it was previously called Constantinople and further back in history, the city of Byzantium.

Recent trends in watchmaking focussed on the dial, with the latest fashions featuring oversized or multicoloured numbers. Omega’s subtle take on this approach may be seen in the De Ville Byzantium, which in addition to its strikingly unique dial also set itself apart from other Omega models as the first gents’ watch in the standard international collection to have a square case, the design of which recalls the brand’s first full calendar complication watch, the Cosmic, which was first introduced in 1948.

The significance of the name Byzantium is seen on what appears at first sight to be a standard black dial. A closer look, however, reveals an intriguing combination of Roman and Arabic numerals – a fusion of East and West if you like and a successful blend of classic and modern characteristics. The time is indicated by the same classic diamond-polished and facetted Alpha hands found on Omega’s high-end De Ville Co-Axial models, which have luminous Super Luminova inserts for superb low-light and night-time legibility.

The square case of the Byzantium which was in stainless-steel measures 33.4 mm by 33.4 mm and has a case back fixed with screws to ensure water resistance to 50 metres / 167 feet. The most distinctive touch is undoubtedly provided by the facetted triangular lugs with contrasting brushed and polished faces, which also serve an important function as the attachments for the black alligator leather strap with stainless-steel foldover clasp. A plain polished stainless-steel bezel was deemed as the perfect complement to the uncluttered dial, with a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the inside completing the high-quality aspect of this timepiece. The De Ville medallion stamped on to the case back depicts the God of Time, Chronos, and recalls the long line of prestige timepieces in the De Ville collection, which is over 30 years old.

Behind the Byzantium’s multicultural dial is a movement that is unique in the world of mechanical watchmaking: the Omega calibre 2500C. This self-winding movement combines Omega’s proprietary Co-Axial Escapement technology with the Omega free sprung-balance without index to offer improved long-term accuracy and reliability. This unique movement with its’ luxurious rhodium-plated finish with Geneva wave décor, circular graining and gold-plated engravings – offers a power reserve of 48 hours and has official chronometer certification from the Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

The De Ville Byzantium is also available as a stunning jewellery piece in stainless steel with a white mother-of-pearl dial, Roman and Arabic numerals set with a total of 109 diamonds, a ruby cabochon set on the crown and a claret alligator leather strap.

OMEGA DE VILLE ST. MORITZ CHRONOGRAPH

OMEGA and the prestigious resort of St. Moritz both share a reputation as pioneers. St. Moritz was the first place in Switzerland to establish a Tourist Office and has over the years built up an enviable reputation as one of the world’s foremost alpine resorts. In addition to being home to Switzerland’s first ski school, St. Moritz is also the birthplace of the sport of bobsleigh and was the first location on the European continent to hold a curling match. The resort’s keen interest in establishing winter sports at the turn of the century provided the experience that was crucial to its staging of two winter Olympics in 1928 and 1948 (the only Games to be held on Swiss soil so far) and four alpine skiing World Championships, most recently in 2003.

Omega is to watch brands what St. Moritz is to mountain resorts, boasting a similar record of pioneering achievements over its 150-year history. In the split-seconds world of sports timekeeping, the brand symbolised by the Greek letter was the first company to be appointed as official timekeeper for all Olympic disciplines at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932. Since then, Omega has provided the official timekeeping equipment and services for a total of 26 Olympic Games. The 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz were the first at which the brand provided not only the timekeeping equipment but also its own trained personnel as timekeepers. More recently, the watchmaking firm has maintained its links with winter sport in St. Moritz through its sponsorship of the Olympic Bob Run and its role as official timekeeper of all FIBT bobsleigh events.

It therefore seems only fitting that a watch be selected to represent the partnership and close association between Omega and St. Moritz and that this should be none other than the Omega De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph. The De Ville is the top of the range in Omega’s collection and is thus the perfect timepiece to symbolize one of the world’s most exclusive mountain resorts.

The De Ville St. Moritz chronograph uses Omega’s top-of-the-range chronograph movement, the calibre 3313, which combines Omega’s proprietary Co-Axial Escapement and free sprung-balance with a column-wheel chronograph mechanism. Column-wheel chronographs are widely recognised as the finest chronograph movements available, yet they remain highly exclusive, since very few manufacturers are capable of producing this sophisticated mechanism. The calibre 3313 has an intricate finish of circular graining, Geneva wave decor, rhodium-plated surfaces and gold-plated engravings in company with a blued-steel centre screw, all of which are visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back. The movement’s precision is attested by its chronometer certificate issued by the official Swiss chronometer testing institute (COSC) and it delivers a power reserve of 52 hours.

The very specialized movement is housed in the distinctive De Ville case in stainless steel, available with a diameter of 41mm or 35mm, the design of which takes its inspiration from the marque’s classic models of the 1950s. The grooves on the inside of the chronograph pushers that match the design of the crown are typical of the meticulous attention to detail for this model. As befits such a prestigious timepiece, the dial is the epitome of sobriety and clarity, pairing facetted red gold-plated hour markers and hands, with blued steel chronograph hands against a silvered background with an applied Omega symbol and name. The final touch of exclusivity is the St. Moritz logo visible in the 5 o’clock position, which is additionally engraved on the case back. A domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with multi-layer anti-reflective treatment on the inside offers maximum protection for this unique dial. The St. Moritz model comes with a brown alligator leather strap with a stainless steel foldover clasp with pushbuttons. This classic design, blessed with the state of the art in watchmaking technology, is the perfect fit for the St. Moritz trademark. It also signals the start of an exciting new partnership between St. Moritz and Omega that will cover numerous areas in addition to watchmaking, such as sports sponsorship, timekeeping and cultural patronage.

OMEGA DE VILLE CENTRAL TOURBILLON 5113.30.00

The Tourbillon represents the ultimate in the fine art of watchmaking. It was invented in 1795 by Abraham Louis Breguet and designed to eradicate the adverse effects of gravity on a watch's going rate by placing the energy-transmitting parts in a cage that rotates around its own axis. OMEGA's interpretation of this concept is unique - the world's only Central Tourbillon movement. The self-winding OMEGA calibre 2600 has a central tourbillon cage that makes one revolution per minute. The movement itself possesses a superlative finish, with Geneva wave décor and hand-polished mechanism and bridges, with a platinum oscillating weight. It boasts a power reserve of 54 hours.

This highly exclusive timepiece is available in 18-carat yellow, red and white gold with a hand-guilloché silver dial as may be seen in the picture above. A brown alligator leather strap or yellow gold bracelet is available. In limited numbers too is a platinum model with a rhodium dial and black alligator leather strap. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the two superimposed sapphire discs on which the hour and minute hands are etched, with the seconds hand, in the form of the Omega symbol, affixed directly to the tourbillon cage. Each Central Tourbillon is personalised with an individual number at 6 o'clock. The OMEGA De Ville Central Toubillon is water resistant to 30 metres.

WATCH OF THE DAY SPECIAL EDITION - October 19 2007

A NEW AGE IS BORN
THE OMEGA CO-AXIAL MOVEMENT AND CHRONOMETER

The revolutionary Co-Axial Escapement, developed in conjunction with renowned British horologist George Daniels is a new design based on a double Co-Axial escape wheel, a lever with three pallet stones and impulse stone on the balance roller. When used in conjunction with a new free sprung-balance without index, the new OMEGA calibre with Co-Axial Escapement reduces sliding friction and is far less sensitive to shock deformations. With the regulating stability improved and guaranteed over time, it endows high-precision chronometers a stable accuracy over long periods of use. Therefore the OMEGA De Ville, with a case and bracelet reminiscent of the successful OMEGA models of the Fifties combine with these new design elements to become a classic watch while embracing technology that reaches out to the future.

Details of Top Picture –

Second Row - The OMEGA Calibre 2500 (center ) with the Free Sprung Balance ( L ) and Co-Axial Escapement ( R )

Several examples were produced in different materials for both the dial and case. The model depicted below is an Automatic Chronometer with 18-carat yellow gold case and striking bracelet also in yellow gold and a dark-blue dial. A model with silver dial was also produced. Early batches of the De Ville Chronometer as covered in this presentation were described as “ Automatic Chronometer “ on their dials. On later versions, the legend was changed, more accurately to read “ Co-Axial Chronometer ”.

The cambered dial of the De Ville chronometer has applied facetted hour markers, an applied OMEGA symbol, a date window at 3 o'clock and Alpha-style hour and minute hands with luminous inserts. These are housed beneath a domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with multi-layered anti-reflective treatment on the inside.

The OMEGA calibre 2500 self-winding chronometer movement (COSC) with Co-Axial Escapement possesses a circular-grained finish with Geneva waves, polished bevelled bridges, rhodium-plated surfaces and gilt engravings. Decoratively-presented, it offers a power reserve of 44 hours in a watch that is water-resistant to 100m.

A further example of the pioneering spirit of OMEGA in unveiling the Co-Axial escapement is this Automatic Chronometer in a stainless steel case with a black alligator leather strap and stainless steel foldover clasp. It featured a ruthenium dial although a black dial was also available. As an additional exclusive feature, the central seconds hand was attractively presented in blued steel.
