I've read somewhere that brass is a good metal for a watch case for a lot of reasons, but brass is hardly a low maintenance metal.

I joined the Marine Corps in part because when the recruiters came to my high school the lack of brass on the uniform really appealed to me after having polished brass ad nauseum in JROTC.

I'd hate to have to polish my watch after the lacquer starts wearing off, which it never does gracefully.
