Curiosity got the better of me.
Something to keep in mind is that illustrations like that were not meant to be technically correct. The artist was trying to communicate impressions. And he chose colors that he thought were best for conveying those impressions. In magazine ads like that if the strap color in the painting actually matched the strap supplied by the factory it was more likely to be a happy coincidence rather than anything that was intended..... Was all those Hamiltons shown on a tan pig skin leather band ? Was that what was originally suppied? pjh
