Love those old ad's - someone always enjoying a smoke. Was all those Hamiltons shown on a tan pig skin leather band ? Was that what was originally suppied? pjh
I am not sure but the pictures show them in most cases with one. I also have an old Hamilton Winthrop which still has an original pig skin band with Hamilton buckle and a stamp from Hamilton on the leather on it. It's not in a good shape but so far I hadn't the time to look for a new one and I also hadn't brought it so service so that it lies only a bit in my box.

Edit:
But then some pictures from the catalogues seemed to be other bands, more of a darker color.

What I also like about those ad's are the clothes and hairstyle of the people. They'll show the fashion of that era really good and since I like that also it is really interesting and in some ways inspiring.

Great thread and great ads guys!

These ads really sparked our imagination back in the day because they could only be see in magazines and catalogues. It was just you and a magazine and you poured over that magazine a million times dreaming of owning what you saw in that special ad. Those were the days before "instant gratification" became the norm and the internet took away our imagination and our patience. A watch was a pretty big investment back then and it was special as these ads show us. It was something you were going to keep for a long, long time, unlike the throw-away items we purchase today...

I really like this Timex ad because it is so proudly proclaims it's American heritage -

I also collect vintage Hamilton ads. Initially, it was to help me identify vintage models before I found and bought Rene's book. I'll try to get mine scanned and posted. Maybe we can make this thread a sticky. It would be a valuable learning tool for noob vintage collectors.
