Beamon, I agree- re the focus. The dial should always be the most infocus element of a watch shot. My camera was just having a hard time- need to go back to something with manual focus rather then this little point and shoot job. Might have to go back wearing a tux for a proper cuff shot!
One trick you could try is to first frame the picture with the watch dead center. This will help ensure that your subject is in proper focus and exposure. Then without letting go of the trigger, reframe the picture with the watch a little lower. then shoot.
