Stopped in at my favorite local AD today as the manager had told me he had the platinum ice-blue Day Date in stock. Of course, I had to stop in & try it on...

While a Day Date (currently) does not appeal to me simply because a 36mm watch is too small on my wrist, how often will I have the chance to put almost $50,000 on my wrist. Plus, I've been anxious to see that dial in person.   :thumbup1:

So, first impression is it's far less blue in person. It really is about the color of blue ice, it has a transparency about it. Depending on how you look at it it's blueish-silver to almost a clear-steel (if that makes any sense). It has just a slight hint of blue. I really liked it....

The pictures of it look very nice, but I've always thought they're a bit too blue for everyday wear. But not so in person... The subtleness of the blue is so understated it's incredibly gorgeous.

Of course the other thing you immediately notice is the weight of the watch. I had the Steel YM with platinum dial with me & that things a lightweight compared to this Day Date. Very nice weight for such a small watch.

And I just loved the presidents bracelet. The whole package is just an A+, save the size. I really wish & hope Rolex will eventually come out with a 40mm DD or DJ. Oh well.. As long as they don't it's one less watch for me to really want...

Anyways, just thought I'd share the experience... It was just so amazing that the dial is so different in real life than what we see in print. While very nice in print you really do have to see it in person to really appreciate what the color is... :thumbup1:

There is no way I could ever afford that watch. That will be the one watch that I will dream of constantly, and like most dreams, it will be just that nothing more than a wish come the next day. That is my all time favorite watch. Glad you got to enjoy it, even if only for a short time.

Exactly

The only reason I haven't bought a Datejust is the 36mm feels/looks too small on my wrist. I really wish they would release the DJ in 40mm, so I could buy one. Until then, I've been very happy exploring other brands :cool1:

I haven't seen the Platinum in person either but I would like to. But if I were able to buy a Day Date eventually, it would likely be the White Gold version, which would be a fair amount of money. Regardless, thanks for the report.

Thanks for sharing Scott. Looks like I'm headed to Vegas for a few days toward the end of April so I'll stop by the Wynn's Rolex store and try one on....what I REALLY want to do is have one side by side with a white gold model and compare the differences in the look and feel.

My dream came true

Hi Scott

Hi

I have been a big Rolex fan since 1982 when I bought my first Rolex, a Datejust in Steel (16030)

Since then I have had several Rolex: 16030, 16013, 18238 and in 2002 I bought a Day-Date 118208 with the new Oyster bracelet

But I missed the president bracelet.

I will be 50 years in June this year so I thought it wood be a god opportunity to give me a present

So I began to look for a Day-Date in WG with the president bracelet 118209

But suddenly I heard that a nearly new Day-Date in platinum would be on sale

So I bought the Day-Date 118206 in September 2007

It is from 04.11.2005. An the best is that it has the new concealed claps

I had the watch check at my AD in Copenhagen

I like the deal very much. I have always dreamed about a Ice Blue deal

My dream came true

Regards

Lars

I had the pleasure of trying on Charles' Plat DD and it was simply incredible. Definitely a grail for me, but I really love RG first and foremost so that will be my first DD, whenever it happens :)

...the memory of trying on his plat DD though will forever linger, it truly is worthy of every penny :)

Lars - that is truly a magnificent watch and always love your photos which really do it justice.

The luster of the platinum is something to behold and that president bracelet is a pure work of art :)

Congratulations, although I know you've had it for a while now...

I've also had the absolute pleasure of trying on the ice-blue PP DD. It is something truly special to behold. I realised I was trying it on simply because I was a good friend of my AD. Nevertheless, it was so stunning and overwhelming there was a split second where I was thinking "Now how can I get my hands on £21500?". Then fortunately/unfortunately I came back to my senses.

I am not a big fan of the 36mm sized OP range either but I was still lusting after this particular DD. Now I hear there's a 41mm version coming out.

Can that really be the perfect Rolex? I shudder to think what the MRRP will be.:scared:

@Lars. You are living many member's dream my friend. Good on ya' and thanks for sharing those great pictures.

You're welcome Lars.

However, I won't thank you for taking me back to that fateful day and making me want one of these out-of-reach beauties again.
