There is a "Coffin Link Band" and there is a "Cushion Coffin Case"

Shown is an "N3" 2182 in an unusual asymmetrical case with brown Tiger Eye dial. While I am generally not looking for any more 218s at this time, two have caught my eye. This one plus the blue dialed tonneau 2180. Case designs that are a little unusual and, perhaps, less sought after attract my attention. A service and polish will restore this model to its full glory. Hope you enjoy.

I don't remember ever seeing that case before.
By the way, if anyone here has sent PM to me, I can see that I have some but I can't get to them. I won't be paying any more membership dues until I get full services back.

I noticed that watch in a scan of the bay listings this afternoon, considered acting on it (I
assume your reference to "2183" is a typo there) but was also looking at two other watch's that I eventually was high bidder on and forgot about the "Cushion Coffin Case", although
the dial is very attractive.... Glad to see you acquired it, Oliver :thumbup1:

I have a 2182, N3 with roman numerals on a light gold dial in a gold plated version of that
case... It has a trimmed to fit the lug spacing, 20mm, light brown Gilden Ostrich Grain strap
attached; looks sharp on the wrist... :cool1:

I really do not need any more watches for a while, at least several months...:crying:

Yep, typo. Added one too many. Corrected!

Post a pic here of your watch. Sounds beautiful! I have notched a couple bands myself for both my Accutrons and Soviet/Russian watches. Helps the look of the watch when the lug spacing is narrow for the case size and the lug surfaces are wide.

Wow, still not able to access messages?!

The case is unusual. I do remember seeing one previously. Haven't really been checking out 218 listings lately.

I haven't looked into posting pix here even though back years ago, I was known as a photographer of sorts, stringer with AP & UPI, was even published in the old Life Mag...

I have pro digital gear but haven't pulled a trigger in months. Use Picasa to edit &
store snaps but as stated, no recent action. Guess I better charge up the battery's
and exercise the shutters. :001_rolleyes:

:blushing:SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST...

MODERATOR, WOULD YOU DELETE THIS DUPE,

PLEASE... :blushing:

Thanks,,,
I you go to "Edit Post" then select "Go Advanced", at the top you will see the option to delete the post. No need to actually state a reason. Took me a while to discover how to delete duplicates.

With your professional background, I would love to see some pics. I use Photobucket to host my photos I wish to share on forums.

This arrived yesterday. It is better looking in person than in the sellers pics. Dial color is kind of a Siena Brown with the center section inside the second/minute hash marks lighter. The top surface of the case is brushed and it is equipped with a SS Twist-O-Flex band with brushed and polished link surfaces. While the band does compliment the watch, I think it might look better with a brown leather band. I have a vintage brown Accutron band on the way and will see how it looks. The watch runs but is gaining time - 7 minutes in about 15 hours. Looks like a re-phasing is in order.

I hope the strap is a trimmed over-sized one...

With the concealed lug design of that case, it is the perfect candidate for this application.
The regular 11/16th Accutron is just a bit undersized, that's why I put a trimmed 20mm
strap on my similar GP case.

Pix?

Actually, the band is a vintage 17.5mm Accutron signed band so, no, I didn't install a wider one. You are correct in that the bulky hidden lug design would look good with a 20mm notched band but on most of my Accutrons I have gone for the original vintage look. Of all my Accutrons only a few have modern bands and for those I will eventually have vintage bands. All but a few also have vintage buckles or clasps.
