After looking at the picture, any knowledge as to why the 'SWISS MADE' is not in it's regular place and says 'SWISS' instead? I know it could have been re-painted - but why go to the trouble and not get it right?

That's a redial. Can't answer if that's a copy of what was originally there or not, but probably not by the time the 50x series had come out. Older watches, particularly bumpers, did say only SWISS if the movement was installed in the US inside an American made case.

Thanks for the information. I haven't worked out how concerned I am about the 'purity' of the watch I get. I do want an original movement, and a vintage appearance. When I look at fully original watches of this period that are of equally excellent condition I know I cannot afford them. I suspect this re-dial option is the right compromise for me at the moment.
