Dear All,

I think this is the better place to get an advice. My intention is to use a watch for a long period in a similar fashion like our fathers/grandfathers done.

Few Key points are
  1. My Budget is Maximum 275 USD
  2. Prefer only Automatic with Power reserve indicator
  3. If along with Automatic , having Manual winding too, then more good

Few Watches I found in one shopping site is mentioned below. Please suggest other affordable models if any.

Orient Men's CFDAC004B0

Orient #FFM01002B

Crystal FD0J004W

ORIENT-FA06003Y

Kindly Advice!!

I have heard positive reports of Orient's quality from watch collectors I trust. In this range, I think I would choose the Orient.

Honestly, I'm surprised that you found a power reserve automatic at this price point. Now I am very curious to what other suggestions are out there.

It's comfortable on the wrist, but I wish the bracelet was a little bit beefier....those are hollow links. However, at only *$99.99, I saved enough to buy a great strap for it. Sorry I can't give a long-term review, it's only 3 years old. But so far, I'm not sorry I bought it.
EDIT: I forgot to mention: turning the crown does NOT wind the watch!

Ditto. Orient is the way to go for an automatic watch with a power reserve in your price range. The Orient Star Watches have the power reserve indicator but are a little more pricey. Do make sure the Orient you look at has manual winding as not all of them do!
Good luck with the hunt!

I have a number of automatics with the power reserve complication and I've always liked the feature. That being said, I've often wondered about a power reserve's utility on an automatic. I have the reserve on a manual wind and it is a valuable addition. My automatics stay wound while wearing and so what use is the reserve? I still like them.

Some people just don't move around as much as others do. I don't have a job where I'm active all day long. I don't participate in "an active lifestyle". My lounge chair, television set, and I have a marvelous relationship together. In fact, as I write this, I'm sure if my watch (which right now is my Omega Seamaster DeVille) had a Reserve dial on it, it would probably read "HEY DUMMY...HOW ABOUT SPINNING MY ROTOR A FEW TIMES, OKAY?''.

Bottom line: I could stand to have a power indicator on a few more of my autos. But that's just me.

Zeppelin is a German watch company, so theoretically they're OK. They received a decent review last year in WatchTime magazine, and I haven't heard anything bad about them.
IMHO, however, I think their quartz models are a bit over-priced. These days, any quartz module isn't that expensive to make! Retail, you can buy a Hattori (Seiko), Citizen or Miyota chronograph movement for about $40-$50,or a Swiss ETA for $80.

It is, really. And hopefully the final decision makes the target audience happy with the result.
Hi Friend , This is not a marketing research :) !! , I am giving you the assurance that, I will finally post the details( photos, purchase invoice etc..) later once I purchased any of this model. My research is to find out a best one for next 45 years :) ..

Today I discussed this with one of my co-worker , he said , if I am looking for a life long watch then need to increase my budget . So my question is QUALITY OF WATCH IS PROPORTIONAL TO PRICE ?

I'm only suggesting that we are researching the market to help you find what you are looking for and are happy with your decision.

In terms of value and longevity, each person will find their own sweet spot. Very good watches can be found very little money, as shown by the Orient offerings. However, there are features that might cost more that also increase the long term desirability of a watch. Sapphire crystals, non-glare coatings, robust bracelets, increased water resistance, etc. can add more value to a purchase even if the initial expense is higher. The requirement to have a power reserve indicator also seems to make the price increase quite substantially as you move to the better quality models since it's seen as a luxury feature. It also seems to be most common on dress watches where water resistance is on the lower side.

A note on the watches our grandparents wore - The watches that I see being passed down from generation to generation are generally models that were quite expensive when new. The Hamilton, Longines, Rolex, etc. cost much more than an Ingersoll or one of many other forgotten brand names. Somebody at some point in history made a significant investment in a watch that allowed it to retain it's value and function over time. I'm not saying that you have spend many thousands to purchase an heirloom watch but even a budget in the $1-2K range will get you an excellent quality watch from a recognized and respected brand name that should last several lifetimes. Here are some examples.

http://www.jomashop.com/longines-watch-26664516.html This one is a dress watch with limited water resistance. It would be fine as long as you don't swim or shower while wearing it.

http://www.jomashop.com/nomos-watch-172.html This one is on the small side at 35mm.

If you can bump the budget a little more, there are truly heirloom pieces.

http://www.jomashop.com/tudor-watch-91210n-bkss.html Tudor is a sub-brand of Rolex and is generally considered very high quality.

Yet none of this is to say that the original Orient model could not last a lifetime with proper care and regular service. They offer a tremendous value within their price range.

Wearing the same watch, day in and day out for that period of time, sounds like a pretty boring existence to me!
