Sug?

Someone here at work asked me what I knew about S.U.G. watches.

Admittedly, I'd never heard of them before.

E-Bay prices seem like they're decent for a daily-wear beater, but the retail prices I found on their website don't reflect the street prices at all.

What's the deal on these things?

I think it's the same company that imports the Louis Bolle that you see all over the bay
I had one, the Nautilus, for the money I considered it a good watch, a Citizen Movement as I remember. Only sold it to try and whittle down the size of my collection. Wish I had it back as my collection is growing back again anyway.
"These ostentatious watches from SUG symbolize the eternal persistence that humanity has to test the limits of our imagination."

I think the above quote from the history page on their website pretty much sums up what this company is all about. In fact, the history page says virtually nothing substantive, which is not a very good sign, in my judgement.

I've got nothing against inexpensive watches, as anyone can tell, but when the website says that all their watches retail for more than a thousand dollars and they can easily be had for less than one hundred fifty, something is really wrong.
S.U.G. Rousseau, Louis Bolle, Deporte, Balmer, and many others are owned and manufactured in China by Always At Market. A Texas marketing company and U-BID co-owner. They are distantly associated with AMWAY. They started out on a bidding website called The Property Room, in early 2005. If you Google Amway, you can trace the company to what is is today.
Thanks banned.
I can't resist this stupid quip:

Boy, those watches really SUG
I thought S.U.G stands for Sächsische Uhrentechnologie GmbH Glashütte (SUG), the company that makes the cases for Sinn watches.

"SUG is the only German case manufacturer certified for the demanding standard DIN 9002." Sinn Catalog

From their history page:

"In 1883, a Winterhur watchmaker by the name of Gottlieb Hauser brainstromed the idea for the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation (Schweizerische-Uheremacher-Genossenschaft) as a distributor for standardized Swiss watch components."

Two different companies.
SUGs are OK watches since you can get them at a good price (usually). I picked up a couple almost a year ago.

They're decent for the price. I have one and it is solid and appears well made. Shop around as prices are all over.

Last night, I showed my wife the list prices on their website, and then showed her what they're going for on eBay.

She responded "Oooooooohhhhh... You should get one".

My niece and nephew call my wife "Honey". Accordingly, there needed to be a "sweet" sounding name for me, too. 'Twas not my idea, but there ya' go. My brother-in-law came up with "Sug", as in "Sug Night" (the now deceased record producer).

So, when I saw those watches, I figured I should have one...
This is my first time posting please be gentle. I recently purchased a SUG off ebay and found the watch case was very nice. It was the throttle model in yellow. In the first 2 monts the quartz watch stopped 3 times. I took the watch to have the battery checked and it was fine. When the back was opened it read China on the inside of the back. The problem with buying them off Ebay is the sellers are buying them from one of SUG's bid sites and reselling them on Ebay. I called SUG in Texas to find that the warranty is only extended to the original purchaser and not the secondary. The seller will not answer my emails so I was forced to contact my credit card company and return the watch. Hope this helps others.
