Actually, IWC has quite a few of their watches that are only made in a strap variety. These are all the models currently offered in strap only. No bracelet is made for them.

All Portafino's
All Da Vinci's
All Portuguese
Pilot Watch Midsize
Pilots Watch Edition Antoine De Saint Exupery
Pilots Watch Chrono
Big Pilots Watch

Actually, the only lines that have bracelets available are the Ingenieur, Spitfires, 1 Pilot Watch (midsize) & the Aquatimers.

I agree this particular watch looks classic on a strap. I was just surprised by the lack of a bracelet
So was I when I realized how many models they don't offer one on. Actually I was very surprised seeing over 1/2 the models they sell don't have a bracelet option.

On a side note, could this also be part of the reason they aren't as widely seen? After all, many people won't buy a watch on a strap, they want the 'steel feel' on the wrist. The lack of bracelets could be a reason for less people being 'interested". After all, while we think that a strap is the only way for a certain watch to be, I'm sure there's others who would say the oposite & that that watch would look fantastic on a certain bracelet. I used to be one of them up until about 9 months ago.... Just thinking out loud here...

Interesting point of view Scott,

My first 'nice' watch was a Navitimer and I bought it on the bracelet, mainly because of durability. It was only a few months later that I added a black strap and I was surprised how it changed the look of the watch. Many of my friends and colleagues thought it looked much better on the strap!

My St Ex Chrono comes on a strap and it looks great! I have seen pictures of it with the Pilot Chrono bracelet (perfect fit) but it doesn't look 'right'. As for the Portuguese Automatic, I don't even dare to think about a bracelet for that watch, it cannot be right!

By the way, I have been wondering about the argument of a bracelet for hot and humid weather. As you might know, Antoine de St Exupéry almost perished in the desert after a crash. At that time, do you really think he worried about not having a bracelet on his watch instead of a leather strap? I seriously doubt that....

Kind regards,

Cinq
