Has anyone here had any experience with Rufus Gerard watches? They have a banner on a different watch forum, but now they have a full page ad in the Feb 2008 WatchTime.

Seems like a silly name, and the website is kinda cheesy. This Rufuslin company says that it is the sole distributor of Rufus Gerard, Botta (allegedly from Germany) and Angular Momentum (allegedly Swiss).

I put this out not because I am interested in such watches (I do not have the intention of ever owning such a watch), but just that it seems kinda scammy. This Rufus claims to have a Japanese movement and they want to sell it for $8,800.00 USD. They also say:

"Rufus Gerard. A distinguished Canadian name in the Swiss-dominated global watch industry." *ahem*

I am Canadian. I am proud of that. But.....

I've never heard of them, either.

I took this address off their website:

305-5811 Cooney Rd,
Richmond BC, Canada V6X 3M1

I'll be travelling to British Columbia on Sunday, and will be spending a week at a hotel in, *ahem*, Richmond.

I'll make a point of visiting them while I'm there...

Just found this on their website, as well:

The movements are crafted and assembled by skilled watchmakers as part of Rufus Gerard’s ongoing collaboration with Seiko Instruments, Japan’s top manufacturer of high end mechanical movements.

Almost nine grand for a watch with a Japanese movement?

Call me crazy, but...

Yeah, sounds fishy. I am in Vancouver, so I could visit them at any time, just for curiosity. I might do that and report, if anyone cares, and if I get around to it, which, honestly, is not a priority.

I am familar with Angular which as I recall has their own unique and I believe patented movement. The other one I have never heard of. But You have to figure since there is something like 3,000 brands out there it's not surprising that we have not heard of them yet.

Best Regards,

I should be able to work them into my trip one day next week. If I do, I'll certainly report back here...
Good luck on your mission Steve.....The Forum's future is at stake. If you should be captured we will, of course, not claim you as being a member. Your name will forever be floating in cyberspace. It is suggested that you wear a Hamilton Khaki..For they will notice that and tell you everything. The watch will say "I know nothing about fine watches".

Good Luck Steve!:thumbup1:

Well, I was in the neighbourhood and I did visit (sort of) the office of Rufus! The website says "305 - 5811 Cooney Road", however, #305 was a packaged office space with many individual businesses, none of which had anything to do with Rufus or Kakkazan. Kakkazan had an office at #207, so I went to the 2nd floor and it was just a door with Kakkazan indicated on the outside. Since Kakkazan runs a separate business apart from their watches, I didn't bother going in.

Maybe Steve can give us more intel if he chooses to explore this further.

Gee.... sounds like I have a lot of time on my hands eh? :001_tongue: Like I said, I was in the neighbourhood -- had to renew some passports and the passport office was across the street.

You'd be hard pressed to convince me that those watches are worth the asking price. Limited editions, or not.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to pay them a visit.

I got up here a day late, due to a cancelled flight. Consequently, I'm trying to fit five days worth of appointments into four days. My Friday is fully stocked...

Well Steve, it was a waste of time like I suspected it would be. Don't bother.

Grady, seems like a very strange set-up they have. Perhaps not a scam, just as a scammy feel -- I am sure they do sell watches, if anyone would like to buy them, that is. Their credibility seems to be severely lacking though. A "distinguished Canadian name" in luxury products? Yikes! Looks like overpriced #[email protected]!. Just my opinion.
