Arguably the most famous chronograph in the world will have its' history acknowledged in some way since there are after all, legions of admirers and enthusiasts who yearn for a piece of that history. To the best of my knowledge, there have been 10 commemoratives of the Speedmaster Professional marking anniversaries of space missions. This excludes the Missions Series which was available in specific case sets and in individual limited issues. I have not included the 50th anniversary launched last year which was again, a limited series and indeed the special edition Moon to Mars model.
Are we approaching a limit in the number of commemoratives of the Speedy Pro I wonder? It may appear so given the summation above. Some pieces such as the Gemini IV may still be found at certain ADs though the number is surely miniscule by now.
With the final bid values of pre-loved Speedies rising anywhere between 25 to 45% over the course of the preceding twelve months, it does seem that the market is stronger than ever. This could be due to the reduced strength of the dollar which has driven buyers into the pre-loved market but consider too that there is an increased level of interest in the Speedmaster which cannot be solely attributable to the success of the Omegamania auction of last April. On WTF alone, whilst we have enjoyed the advent of new members, we only had, unless there were undeclared members, one Speedmaster owner back in the summer of 2006. Now there are several. All this may indicate that there is after all a market for commemoratives.

What do you think of the various commemoratives that have been launched? Have they all been worthy releases or were some perhaps less than necessary?
June 20 2009, I'm going by EST here since it was after all an American achievement, marks the fortieth anniversary of the first moon landing. I have no doubt and indeed look forward to what Omega may have in store to celebrate this great historic achievement.
How about you pals?
Enjoy your weekend :001_smile:
