This just illustrates another reason NOT to buy a boutique dive watch.

Send your money and *POOF* they disappear. :cursing: I'd be pursuing whatever legal avenues you have, and I hope whoever left deposits did so by credit card so you can get the charge reversed.

Thankfully I have no skin in this game. But as a guy who used to investigate fraud your best bet is for everyone to get together and file police reports in the town he is or was doing business in. Most police departments now have an place online to file a report. You might also contact the fraud division of the local DA where he was doing business. If any of you did any part of the original transaction via mail or with a postal money order you can file a complaint with your local postmaster. One last thought if it was across state lines then you can contact the federal attorney but it would need to be a group effort. Not much chance you will ever see your money but there is a good chance he will see the inside of a jail. I wish you luck.

As a webmaster for an e-comm watch store that carried Stolas, Curtis asked I add these new watches for pre-sale in advance of product being received by manufacturer. I asked Curtis expected delivery to Stoals and shipment to customers, his reply was "Mother's Day Weekend" that was 3 years ago. I'm glad we did not do this.

We've only done two other pre sales before, both worked out well.

I have one of the 50 Harbormaster LEs, so when Curtis emailed the new line, I was game. Send my $85 deposit, had a couple emails back and forth about the combo of style I wanted and that was that.

I followed up a couple times, but in reality I knew the $85 was a risk up front. It could have been worse, I suppose. Disappointing as the quality of the HM is superb...simply amazing.

Hang on to the Harbormaster. Some day it may achieve a certain amount of notariety, as in: "Oh, so THAT'S one those infamous Stolas Watches, eh?"

I really don't know. But the way I see it...
1) Nobody has formally complained about the forum being here, therefore we've really had no particular reason to get rid of it.
2) As far as I know- Scott D (think of him as the WTF Headmaster) is the only one who has the technical permission from VerticalScope to get rid of it.
And since he's not around right now, there's been no cause for the Mods to bring the subject up for discussion.

Well, you can no longer pre-order it seems, on their website. It also appears that items "in stock" and not sold out can still be purchased. Whether the purchase will be honored, shipped, etc., I have no idea. Not willing to send $900 over to test it either.

Interestingly, the price on the Genoa has increased since I originally bought one.

...and the copyright on the website was updated sometime in 2014, so someone is maintaining the website.

Maybe they are still selling off old stock as orders come in but not moving forward with new designs. Shame, too, because I wanted a Warthog and the design shown on the site is the design I told Curtis I wanted.

Been a while since I checked this forum, since I've long ago given up on the deposit; but for what it's worth I vote NOT to get rid of this forum. Anyone who has an interest in buying a Stolas NEEDS to know what they're risking and this forum is one more red flag for them. If it saves one person from getting ripped off by Stolas, it's worth it.

There was voting going on?

I can assure you there are no plans, either official or otherwise, to delete The Stolas Forum.
