To bad. That AD just lost a potential future sale. While nothing that I know of dictates that have to do the verifications or appraisals, some ADs will do it as a good will (or a nominal charge) gesture to generate future business. Besides, which AD are you going to refer acquaintences to next time?
So I walked into an AD today...
I won't mention the store, but the salesman spotted my TT Serti Sub and came right up to me. I told him I was interested in an insurance appraisal and explained the watch was given to me as a gift from my wife.
As soon as I mentioned it was pre-owned, he completely lost interest in anything I had to say. The store was empty, so I wasn't nor would I keep him from customers.
He also said they would not remove the case back to authenticate. In order for that to happen, it would have to be sent to Rolex with an 8 week turnaround time.
I called another local non-AD, they said "no problem, we'll do an appraisal and authenticate including removing the case back while you wait".

I will totally agree that he lost a future sale, I also believe that most of the AD's are great. Now having said that there does seem to be something in the air with the stores during this holiday :001_unsure:, it could be the economy. I did speak to a Rep offline, and he did confirm that all of the Ad's have some very high goals during the holidays :scared:. The simple fact is that if you do not treat the customer right you will loose future sales, word of mouth being #1.:glare: I also know from experience that once you find a good AD you should stick with them. Now do not get me wrong still shop around a bit for good prices :biggrin:.

Not all ADs have a watchmaker/technician so I'm not surprised. It pays to call around. :thumbup1:
I had very similar experiances to you, only I haven't been able to find anyone to authenticate mine yet. I got an appraisal, but not someone to pop off the back and tell me it's real, still looking myself
I unintentionally left a detail out that you jogged my memory about. I called this store the day prior and they have an appraiser come in on Thursdays. They told me it could be appraised by looking exteriorly, but would not open the case. He would only attempt to authenticate by looking at the exterior of the watch.Not all ADs have a watchmaker/technician so I'm not surprised. It pays to call around. :thumbup1:

When you see these "frankenwatches", they can have genuine dials, crowns and hands... but bracelet, case and movement are usually fake.
Some of those forgeries are scary good though.
