I have this old Omega Automatic dated about 1946 and I am looking for a reputable watch service to disassemble, clean, oil, and for a possible repair. The watch runs ok, but is very dirty inside, the face has a nick, and the gold colored case will need a buffing. I would like to ask if anyone has experience with a watch repair of this type, and could recommend a dependable watch repair service.

Hello Tommy, and Yes the USA Watch Service seems very good. Have they serviced any vintage watches for any of the WT Forum members? However, I just looking for that extra input of experience from any of the members that have sent away ar vintage watch for service. I assume that I am not the first on this forum to have a vintage watch serviced. The Omega I have is one of the original Automatics and it would be nice to have it cleaned and/or repaired without any hitches. This is why I am seeking the experience of others………so that I can gain that little extra confidence in a watch service that I have only contacted over the phone. My experience with watches is very limited and I joined this site to gain some knowledge. Until a year ago, I had no interest in watches, and then all that changed when my friend visited Malaysia and brought me back a knock-off Rolex. Since then I dug out of my drawer the watch my father gave me some 20 years ago and began looking into Omega history. My reading found vintage watches have much character and now during the evening I am reading the Cooksey Shurgart’s Complete Guide to Watches (I must be getting old). I am only looking for some helpful advice to considerwhen I have this watch restored back to its proper condition. Maybe you can share some of your experience or a bit of advice.

Well, first off I am glad to hear of your recent interest in watches. The sickness now has a hold of you!

I have had both of my vintage Seamasters serviced locally. Each time the fee ran just north of $200 and took approximately 3 weeks. At that price point you can typically expect a full breakdown and cleaning of the movement, having the watch regulated and the case polished. Some minor adjustments and repairs are usually covered in that as well.

I hope that bit of information helps. Welcome to the forum, and for a little extra studying I recommend visiting our Beginner's Forum.

I must add that if you want to be 110% sure that it will be done right and right the first time and also with impeccable work, you should send it to the homeland in Bienne, Switzerland. Their address can be found on their website. Directions for shipping international can also be found on this forum in threads dedicated specifically for the topic. It may cost more, but no one can do better work than them. Not saying it can't be done locally, but Bienne is a guarantee.
