Rolex Milgauss

My inexpert and uneducated guess would be that a date function mey render the anti-magnetic properties of the watch less effective. Like i say this is a guess, but in thinking about it, the Omega Railmaster (also anti-magnetic) has no date function either.
You could argue that the Milgauss is THE ultimate tool watch, so specific is its purpose, and pragmatically therefore needs no date.
I like it a lot and am only dissuaded from buying one due to the case size, which would look odd on my skinny wrist!

BM - different strokes for different folks, ya know? The Milgaus doesn't particularly appeal to me either. :blink:

Date or no-date I think is a personal preference and personally I can go either way. I have both a No Date Sub (14060M), an Omega Railmaster and a no date, no second hand Seiko dress watch, but the rest of my watches have dates on them. Love them all!

Quite a few people also have Daytonas, but some would not buy one because it does not have a date function. Oh well, I guess that is why there are literally thousands of watch designs out there.

I kinda like the Milgaus, somewhat similar to the Exp I, very simple design except for the funky and unique second hand.

The watch is a great watch; but, for me, 3 things turned me off.

1: No date.
2: Color Scheme
3: Lightning bolt.

Although I have never spoken to anyone at Rolex about it, my guess as to why they are not including a date on this model is because it is easier to provide protection from magnetic fields without this complication, but this is just a guess.

I too generally prefer a date, although for me this depends a little. Some dress watches, etc., look better without one, I think.

The Milgauss is nice looking to my eyes, in fact, it reminds me of the (either 1952 or 1956) of the Eterna Kontiki, which shared some design features with the current Milgauss. Regardless, I like it. Although I have yet to add it to my list this year for purchase, mainly this is because I am going to focus on other models first, but I might add it for 2009 or something. I think that for those who for example work around computers a great deal, it might be a very useful feature to have protection from magnetic fields. My favorite is the one with the black dial and green tint. :001_smile:

To each his own. Those reasons and some others are why i want one really bad.

Typically I'm not an early adopter of watches...in many cases, it takes a while for me to warm up to watches....so who knows? This time next year I might be really wanting a Milgaus too. :biggrin:

I agree with John on this one. I'm not ready to part with $6K for it yet. The Milgauss was not a watch Rolex put in front of a focus group and asked them what they thought. Rolex produced this watch for the collectors out that that both love Rolex and want something extra unique.

I personally fall into the camp that lusts after that really unique green crystal and snazzy lighting bolt second hand. (and I'm a date guy -- believe me) You ever seen that movie, The Big Lebowski? Its something you love or you don't. I'm extremely pleased that Rolex is out there taking chances and making fun watches.
