My inexpert and uneducated guess would be that a date function mey render the anti-magnetic properties of the watch less effective. Like i say this is a guess, but in thinking about it, the Omega Railmaster (also anti-magnetic) has no date function either.
You could argue that the Milgauss is THE ultimate tool watch, so specific is its purpose, and pragmatically therefore needs no date.
I like it a lot and am only dissuaded from buying one due to the case size, which would look odd on my skinny wrist!
