I have been trolling for the past few weeks and finally decided to post. So I could use your collective advice. I am considering purchasing a new Panerai from an AD and have narrowed it down to the PAM111 and the PAM90. I like the 111 for it’s simplicity and the 90 for the date and power reserve indicator. My concern with the 111 is that its manual wind vs. the 90 being automatic. Anyone have experience with these models. What are your thoughts on manual vs. automatic? I have only 1 manual watch and it doesn’t see much wrist time. Pictures courtesy of panerai.com are attached for reference.

I would go with the 111 (or 005)

Maybe even a 112 (or 000) over the 90 any day.

I feel those represent more of what Panerai is about, a divers tool watch and simplicity, than a power reserve and complications. If you must have an automatic and date function you might look at a Pam104, closest thing to a Pam111 in an auto.

Im sure E will also tell you that there is power in the base :thumbup1:

You will probably be lucky if both models are available to try on when you go to an AD. But that may or may not be an option that can help you decide.

ENGphoto is correct. PAM00111 of the historic collection ($5250 2007 msrp) manual wind is essentially what the company represents.

Even more so are the PAM Bases (which is what I would desire). Just know that you will be minus a second hand showing. So if that's important to you to have, exclude the simplicity of the Base and go back to the Luminor Marinas.

BASES
PAM00000 Logo black $4050
PAM00112 black $4750
PAM00114 white $4750
PAM00176 ti black $5400
PAM00219 destro blk $5700

However, the features of the PAM00090 ($6950) are indeed note worthy that you mentioned. For yourself, you would have to decide if the added date and power reserve and automatic suits your needs. Best of watch hunting!

Of those two choices, I would go for the 111. I have 2 handwind PAMs and I don't have a problem with it, at all. They both have a power reserve of about 57 hrs. So, you only need to wind them every other day.

Oh, and I agree about the base dials, both my PAMs are bases.

Welcome! You'll love whatever you get, I'm certain.

Everyone
Thanks for your comments. I pulled the trigger and went with the 111. The 90 was too busy a dial. We will see how it plays out. I did order 2 new straps (black & burgandy alligator). I will post some pics later:001_smile:

I liked the simple look of the pam111. I looked at both and the 90 just looked busy. Right now my only issue is the winding since I am use to automatics. We will see if over time I like winding vs. auto. might have to move to a PAM104 or PAM164

I think you hit it on the head. Main difference are the "looks" and the price as underneath is all relatively the same.

All of these are part of the historical collection.
All are 44mm
All are handwound, exclusive Panerai OP calibre, 16.5 lignes, 17 jewels, Glucydur balance making, 21,600 alterations/hur. Incaboloc anti-shock device. Power reserve 56 hours.

PAM00000 - has the OP logo on the dial face and says it's calibre is OP I. Solid steel caseback, engraved. Black sandwich dial. SS

PAM00112 - Calibre is OP X (No description of how this is different than given above). Caseback is see-through. Black sandwich dial. SS

PAM00114 - Same as 112 except white face diale. Non-sandwhich lume, never seen one. But I think it's flat black printed numerals non-lume, just lume dot markers. SS

PAM00176 - Titanium casing and clear back. Black sandwich dial.

PAM00219 - For wearing on the right wrist. Crown guard on left side of the case. Black sandwich dial. SS
