It looks like they're doing a complete overhaul, and the price is typical for factory service. You probably can get it done nearly as well for a couple hundred less at a local qualified watchmaker, but you'd be sort of rolling the dice if you don't know one you can trust.

How old is the watch? Agree that u can probably get it done for maybe $150 less at an independant but that price isn't too bad for an omega full service. You will get a 1 or 2 (not sure how long) year warranty on the omega repair not likely with an independant.

If u go with omega over an independant don't send it to new jersey. Send to one of the other service centers. Nj's reputation isn't that great.

They've had some qc issues in the past but I think omega cracked the whip a little. Your watch should be in good hands.

I had my Omega SMP overhauled at the NJ service center. When the watch was returned to me, it was back to keeping nearly perfect time. I was very satisfied with the service my watch received there. I don't think I will go to the expense of sending my watch to Switzerland as long as NJ keeps up the good work.

best wishes,

Jeff

I must say when I saw your quote I thought it to be quite reasonable. The beautiful thing about an Omega service is that it is recognised as a good way to guarantee authenticity of your watch when selling and I have no doubt that the resale wouldn't be hurt either.

On the other hand if your going to keep the watch for a long time yes, you might be able to get the watch serviced cheaper by an unauthorised source but piece of mind is very important to me.

Cheers mate and let us know your thoughts on the return of the watch.

I just got my AT Railmaster back from service from NJ 2 months ago and it took about 7 weeks. My total was $425 for a complete overhaul. They also wanted to change my front crystal (which I could not understand why since I cannot find a scratch) for another $125, luckily the AD called me to check before they worked on it.

The disappointing thing is that the watch is 3 years old (just barely out of warranty) and it needed a full service. Actually the only problem was the watch had about 3-4 hours of power reserve after a full day of use. Otherwise the accuracy is dead nuts. I thought I just needed repair (to fix the specific problem) and not a FULL service but I could not find a reputable watchmaker to fix it. Also, the watch was part of a 10 watch rotation, certainly did not need a case refinish, but it got one anyway. Oh well.

So much for the "superior" co-axial movement. I have better luck with plain old ETA movements.
