Hi, New to forum first post. Just received my dad's Accutron 214 Spaceview. I put a new battery in it. It runs most of the time but stops once in a while, and needs a tap to get going. The hour hand is also off a little. Is there a decent place to get it serviced? Thanks

There are 3 places named in this thread. The first two are members here in this forum and the 3rd was recently recommended. There are also 2-3 others here in this group that have indicated they service Accutrons.
Thanks. I've been doing some researching in these threads since I posted. Would love to send my watch to Bob in Thailand, but am a little nervous about sending, what used to be my father's watch, overseas. My second choice would be Bob Piker in IL. Have seen enough good reviews of him. My watch is just a basic service situation. Thanks again.

I understand your concern but no one here has reported any issues with sending their tuning fork watches to Rob B in Thailand and if you search on this forum you'll find a number of glowing reviews on both Rob B & Chris Radek's work. Piker, while mostly very good, has had a few mixed reviews here.

Guess I'm just a little nervous about filling out the forms correctly. Do you know if the tracking from the US is good all the way to Thailand? Is there a way to verify he receives it. Bob B seems like the right guy. Just need to get past my nerves.

I have sent Rob B about 20 watches and never had an issue. He is the only guy I use. Tracking is good but not quite like USPS tracking. Considering the less than quality of most US-based people and the integrity and expertise of Rob B, I would recommend no one else. Please stay away from Piker. Nice guy to talk to but the quality of service and complete lack of memory sure make a watch repair scary at the least.
*Email Rob B and get the details from him. He is quite helpful and will walk you through the process.

* And since Chris Radek (the Accutron Guy) has had a notice on his site for more than a year saying he isn't taking any new work I would disregard trying him. If he has any updates on his watch status he can easily post on here and let us know. It's been crickets for a year or more. I know he posts on other forums a lot so I don't see why he wouldn't update (this)(other) forums that helped put himself in the spotlight and on the map.

Chris Radek Notice Website below: It appears he has quit doing work. How long does it take to catch up? Its been over a year........................:unsure::unsure:

Danger Will Robinson...Danger... Bob Piker is a hack and there are enough scary stories about his incompetence and sloppy work buried on this site to make your hair turn white. Please consider that option very carefully.

I sent a Spaceview to Rob last year and was totally pleased with the result. I'm going to be sending him some more. Oddly enough, his ISP (something iinet.net.au) thinks my ISP (Earthlink) is a spam factory and bounces anything I send to him. I go through a guy in Texas to relay messages. His messages to me come right through, my e-mails to him bounce.

Absolutely top flight, I couldn't be more pleased, and I've been accused of being a cranky, testy so-and-so, which isn't ENTIRELY so, but when someone says they'll do X, I expect them to do X correctly - Rob did.

Don't sweat sending the watch, the mail is pretty reliable.

Best Regards,

Mike/Florida

Hi all, I seem to have caused offense. I'm sorry about that. I've been expanding my coil manufacturing work, mostly supplying them to other repairers. You can see some updates on my website. I've done a lot of work lately for the Longines UltraQuartz watches, which are amazingly weird and special. I do expect to take Accutron work again soon, but please understand as I choose priorities and timing that are best for me and my family and my business. I'm just one person being pulled in many directions. I sure do appreciate all the kind words, here and elsewhere, over time, and I appreciate those of you who have contacted me in private to check in on me.

Cheers,
Chris
