OMEGA DE VILLE X-2 CO-AXIAL CHRONOGRAPH

The Handsome De Ville X2 Co-Axial Incorporates Chronograph Functions

OMEGA’s superlative De Ville line is proud to announce the release of its latest X2 Co-Axial Chronograph: an exciting newcomer that follows in the steps of its successful square-shaped predecessor featuring the incorporation of chronograph functions. This happy marriage of X2 aesthetics and De Ville Chronoscope mechanics is a sight to behold. Adopting the bold design cues from the 1951 Cosmic that was re-launched as a limited edition Museum Piece, the self-winding X2 is presented in an enlarged 18-carat red gold or stainless steel case that houses the handsome dial with its retro feel and oversized features. Powering the heart of this formidable chronograph is OMEGA’s exclusive Calibre 3202 in this winning rendition of sporting performance and imposing presence.

Designers at OMEGA have enlarged the size of the X2 by two millimeters to house the new movement in a very conspicuous square-shaped case. Measuring 37 mm x 37 mm, the new X2 Co-Axial Chronograph is available in two versions: in opulent brushed and polished 18-carat red gold or sleek stainless steel.

In order to manipulate the chronograph functions, the polished symmetric rectangular pushers, reminiscent of ingots, have been placed on either side of the crown. The bezel on the 18-carat red gold model, in contrast to the lugs, has been vertically brushed. The craftsmanship is all too apparent in this superior timepiece made patent in the care that has gone into the smallest details such as the facetted triangular-shaped lugs that have been brushed and polished in keeping with the case. The luxury finish of the watch is protected by the screwed caseback that has a slight curve to sit on the wrist and has been vertically brushed and stamped with the De Ville medallion, and engraved with the words “X2” and “Co-Axial Escapement”.

The eye-catching dial of the chronograph showcases the audaciously large Roman X2 juxtaposed with Arabic numerals featured on the sub dials that lend the watch its name. The lustrous black-brown dial, achieved through a PVD (physical vapour deposition) on the red gold watch has benefited from the same technology to create the dial of its close family member, the De Ville Chronoscope. In keeping with the aesthetics of the stainless steel model, the dial is available in contrasting black or cool silver.

Like the former X2 model, the new X2 features a white painted Railway minute track with elongated white indices but, in a departure from its predecessor, the 8 hour indexes have been facetted and applied in 18-carat red gold for heightened contrast. In the case of the stainless steel model, the hour indexes have been facetted, applied and plated with rhodium or ruthenium.

The chronograph sub dials are the same as those featured on the prestigious De Ville Co-Axial Chronoscope with a 30-minute recorder set at 3 o’clock, an ingenious 12-hour counter with a double arc window set at 6 o’clock and a continuous seconds counter at 9 o’clock. The highly visible and legible counters feature applied Arabic numerals for precision chronograph readings and have a rhodium plated central chronograph and counter hands. In pride of place, the applied OMEGA logo and company name sits just under the imposing X2 at 12 o’clock.

To ensure accurate reading in even the most compromising light conditions, the Alpha hour and minute hands of the new X2 Co-Axial Chronograph have been coated with SuperLuminova. Exemplary of the level of detail, the hands on the 18-carat red gold model have been fashioned in the noble metal and polished and facetted. Those on the stainless steel watch are polished and facetted in plated rhodium or ruthenium. A domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides protects the precious dial.

Fitted with an exclusive Calibre 3202, the self-winding chronograph benefits from OMEGA’s revolutionary and proprietary Co-Axial Escapement technology, a column wheel mechanism and a free sprung balance. The Co-Axial Escapement considerably reduces sliding friction in the escapement and offers improved long-term reliability and accuracy. It represents one of the most important advances in watch making over the last 250 years and was first introduced in OMEGA’s De Ville range. Column-wheel chronographs are widely recognized as the finest movements available and the column-wheel system is designed to ensure a smooth start to the sweep of the seconds hand. It also provides precision stop and reset functions that do not interfere with the main timekeeping function of the watch when the chronograph is activated. The OMEGA free sprung-balance is used in conjunction with the Co-Axial Escapement and is far less sensitive to shock-deformations. The regulating stability is thus improved and guaranteed over time.

With its official Swiss chronometer-testing institute certification (COSC) for accuracy and reliability, a 52-hour power reserve and water resistant to 50 m, this X2 Co-Axial Chronograph is presented with an elegant and fully integrated alligator leather strap. Available in brown alligator with black stitching, black alligator or a distressed brown-beige alligator strap, all three models have a brushed foldover clasp to match the metal of your choice.

OMEGA Presents
De Ville Hour Vision Annual Calendar - Limited Series

Tuesday 15 January 2008

The De Ville Hour Vision Annual Calendar is the refined result of 160 years of experience in the art of making mechanical watches. At the heart of the Hour Vision Annual Calendar, manufactured in-house by the Swiss luxury and prestige watch brand, is the exclusive OMEGA Calibre 8611, a further development of the OMEGA Calibre 8500/8501, the new generation of OMEGA Manufacture Calibers first introduced with Hour Vision at the outset of 2007. Like the 8500/8501, the OMEGA 8611 is a high-precision COSC-certified chronometer, featuring the additional functionality of an instantaneous jump annual calendar complication. This annual calendar automatically recognizes months with 30 and 31 days and, assuming that the watch is always running, needs to be manually corrected only once a year, on March 1st. The date and month are displayed in separate apertures.

The new De Ville Hour Vision Annual Calendar, available at the beginning of 2008 in a Limited Series of 160 pieces, is based on advanced co-axial technology exclusive to OMEGA: the innovative co-axial escapement and free-sprung balance guarantee stable accuracy and extended reliability over time. A virtuoso 13-line movement with 18-carat red gold rotor and balance bridge, the OMEGA 8611 has two barrels ensuring an impressive 55-hour power reserve and a bi-directional self-winding mechanism. The intricate beauty of the mechanism is echoed in the luxurious decorative finish, as fine black screws complement the delicate Geneva stripes presented with an arabesque pattern, a world premiere.

OMEGA’s rich heritage and unparalleled experience in the manufacture of mechanical watches is expressed in every feature, beginning with the polished 18-carat white gold case, a remarkable feat of engineering that enhances the visibility of the meticulously-crafted movement through four lateral openings in sapphire crystal. The elegant sunbrushed black dial features a grooved rhodium plated hour track with a brushed and polished finish and the words “Annual Calendar” at 12 o’clock and the white-on-black month and date window framed in faceted satin-brushed 18-carat red gold at 3 o’clock. The elegant, faceted 18-carat red gold hour markers and the red gold “parform” hour and minute hands and central seconds hand also feature a satin-brushed finish, and the red gold offers a striking contrast to the white gold case, black dial and matt black alligator strap with its white gold foldover clasp. Water-resistant to 100 m (330 ft), the case back of the De Ville Annual Calendar Limited Series bears the Limited Series number (0/160) along with the inscriptions Hour Vision and Annual Calendar. This exclusive timepiece is presented in a wooden box fitted with four lateral windows through which the watch is visible, echoing the four sapphire lateral openings in the watch case itself.

The De Ville Hour Vision Annual Calendar Limited Series will be complemented at the end of 2008 by a global collection of eight models, four in red gold and four in stainless steel, all with dials identical in design to that of the Limited Series. The steel models will be offered with silver or grey dials and a steel bracelet or black alligator leather strap. The red gold models will be available with silver or brown dials and a red gold bracelet or brown alligator leather strap.
