Hi,

I am a new user to the forum.

I was given a new spacemaster for early xmas present after many years of wishing.

Have had it for 5 days and it has stopped working. Have not bumped or knocked it, have swam with it, but does not appear to have any leakage, condensation, etc. I have tried winding it manually but do not want to overwind it. Does anyone know how many turns of the crown is needed beforeyhe watch startsto tick over? Will take it back to the AD in a few days, but now a bit sad/dissapointed :-(

After many years of research i had expected a quality, reasonably tough time piece from ball.

Has anyone had any similiar experience?

Sid, welcome to WTF. My condolences on your watch. Trust me...I can imagine how dis-appointed you're feeling right now.

Any auto should kick into gear (no pun intended) after about 4 revolutions of the crown. To get my autos seriously running, I give the crown 40 to 50 complete revolutions! You cannot over-wind your watch. For many years now, a special clutch mechanism is included in the winding train of any automatic which prevents over-winding.

Here's hoping it's something minor. My Fireman II has suffered two broken winding stems in the last three years! :cursing:

Sorry to hear about the probs with the fireman. I was considering that before deciding on the spacemaster. I also hope its only minor, and now anxious about the support and service from ball. I live in Sydney, and bought it from one of only two ADs. Not sure if the watch will be sent to the US? Over the five days i actually wore it, disregarding the problem, i did become quite attached to it....

I will keep the post going until resolution for future reference.
