Well I'm happy to share the story with fellow watch fanatics.
The short answer is that I got the piece for approx. 60% of its full retail price...it's a few years old. Not bad for a Panerai.
Private sale.
Then I took it to a Panerai specialist for full cleaning and polishing and brand new OEM Panerai strap, just like original.

Ha ha yeah it was a big indulgence although pre-owned through private sale made it very realistic.
But it was the very exact model I most wanted. In those situations you just have to go for it.
Otherwise you just regret it and dwell on it for months afterwards.
