Correct, it is the SMC 28,200bph brass high-grade movement.

Here is a link to the our movement information on our website

A lot of companies try to hide their movement info from the public if they are not using ETA. But we are proud of what we are using because we actually tested all the movements and choose the best ones.

The Miyota 9015 wasn't available yet when we created these first Harbormasters. The 9015 is in for testing however for future models.

What is da caliber designation for this movment? It's 25 jewel, correct?

sm iiH!

Yes it is 25 jewel.

The actual caliber I am not sure of but they label it as the SMC 2824. I know it has one but just not sure what it is. Its along the lines of their 2L line and they have a skeleton version as well. Their normal B line is a movement series they have incorporated for about 50 years. After their success with the 3L line with a top grade 7750 they started the 2L series to take the place of ETA movements now that they are passing away so to speak. There are a lot of watch brands out there that have specific molds for the 2824 that need to be filled so most reputable movement makers are trying to fill the shoes. The movement is similar but quite different than the ETA 2824 so its not really a clone by any means like the Sea-Gull or Hangzhou.

I agree Curtis.

The Sea-Gull & Hangzhou do not share the caliber of the S.M.C. engine . I do not want to take away from those two movements but the reality is in my experience they don't deserve to be compared. Great choice for '11. I can't wait to see what the next models have to bring to the table in terms of the movement options!!::biggrin:

I have been super impressed by this movement. I have been getting only a couple seconds a week on my spinnaker which is awesome. I have been keeping it in rotation every week, really only take it off when I do some gardening and throw on a Timex to get banged up. WOW it is crazy how small a Timex is compared to a Stolas, makes the Timex look like a girls watch lol.

I cant remember or i havent seen it, but is there a power reserve for this movement? I'll wear the Spinnaker one day, take it off at night, and wear it on the 2nd day. By the 3rd morning the watch has died. any idea why?

Yes Myth, it carries a 40hr power reserve. But it is only attained by winding the movement (with the crown) about 40 times. Depending on how active you are, the watch may never attain full reserve with just wrist rotation. Wrist rotation usually maintains the amount of reserve but if you are pretty active it will increase it to full reserve.

I only wind mine before putting it on. But I also wear it through the night as well.

Opening up an old post, but would it be wise to use a watch winder with the Spinnaker? If so, what rotation can I use to achieve this?

It is an automatic. that being said a watch winder would be a nice accoutrement to your Spinnaker. Being a SMC 2824, you can set it to wind both clockwise & counter clockwise..

I keep my Spinnaker on a winder when not in use. Better for the movement to keep it wound, it's been said...

Not true. Modern lubricants don't break down when sitting. It's actually more wear and tear on the movement to keep it on the winder. Dennis or "ulackfocus" has good info on that. He was a moderator for years and is a great resourceful member that has put in a lot of time and effort on the forum.

Our one year warranty on the Harbormasters is great. If you have any problems with the movement after that period we can take care of it. That is the nice thing about the SMC movements, they are easy to repair and if needs be, we can just replace it without a huge cost to you. In fact, if that point ever occurs, we might add our new Swiss autos to them.
