PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR SERIAL NO. 9207056

I sent my Rolex Submariner 16800 to Mr. Calvin Yeung last March 14, 2008 via Fedex. It arrived its destination with the following details on their website

Tracking number
xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
Signed for by
M.R YUNG
Ship date
Mar 14, 2008
Delivery date
Mar 15, 2008 10:13 AM
Reference
xxxxxx
Destination
HO MAN TIN KOWLOON HK
Delivered to
Residence
Service type
Priority Box
Weight
1.0 kgs.

However, I've been sending e-mails for confirmation and tried calling recipients mobile but no one answers. Then, I get an e-mail nine hours after the package was delivered from the supposed recipient claiming that

"An empty box, 1lb, was opened with a Fedex guy."

I am flabbergasted.

I called up Fedex and they say that the recipient claimed, upon receiving the box, that the contents (so there was something inside) were damaged. Fedex told me that they are already conducting their investigation.

All calls I have placed to recipient aren't being answered last March 15, 2008.

Next day, I receive an e-mail from supposed recipient that he needs serial no and I obliged. Dunno why he needed it, probably he needs it for the investigation.

I sent the watch because he came highly recommended and with good references.

I am the pragmatic person type of guy who does not want to accuse anyone immediately.

Sad part here is that Fedex insures only up to 500USD and, just yesterday, I got a call from them saying I should already go ahead with the claim.

Fedex is so disappointing.

I am very sorry to hear of your misfortune. I have read "I believe on this forum", that if a watch is reported stolen to Rolex the put the serial no in a database and it is flagged and reported to the rightfull owner, if ever sent in for repair or service.
This is of course no compensation for your financial loss but must be at least worth trying, you never know.
Good luck

I feel bad for you. I hope you find the watch and everything works out okay. When shipping an expensive watch, I use USPS and insure it at its replacement value. It is way more expensive (my last one was about $50), but the peace of mind is worth it. Again, I hope you find the watch. There's enough on our plates, we don't need this kind of thing to stress out.

I guess I'm confused as to why you didn't insure it for the full amount. I think default insure on fedex is $100... are you saying that you asked for it to be insured for the full amount but fedex tops out at $500 coverage?

Has anyone ever successfully filed a claim with a shipper (USPS, Fedex or UPS) and received funds? I've personally never lost a package. I also insure for the full amount but I've yet to hear about someone who's successfully received claimed funds from one of the big shippers. Just curious if they ever pay out and what it took to successfully complete the claim process.

Yes, I did ask Fedex if I can insure it for full value but they said no matter how much you claim its value they will only insure abd be held liable for the first 500USD.

Thus, no use actually to claim higher than 500USD and pay for premiums which you wouldn't be covered.

Fedex is quite disappointing!

If you had your watch scheduled the ins would probably cover it. If its part of your regular coverage, there would be a deductible as well as a ceiling on how much. Also when you make a HO claim, it affects your rates. You should call your agent and let him know. Do not volunteer more information than is necessary.

Yes, that's what FedEx exactly told me. Any premiums paid over the 500USD coverage is worthless.

So sad.
