I have just acquired what appears to be a La Grande Classique but the back is unusual with no inscription or serial number/s apart from Longines and emblem. Is it a fake? If it is not, can anyone tell me what model / date it is?
Thanking you in anticipation of a response (good or bad!).
Well mikeyt_53 took your advice (although I was a bit worried that I may damage it) and your suspicions were correct. a nice Japanese movement lurking inside! Many thanks anyway.
I had similar concerns with the one I purchased 4 1/2 years ago. I purchased mine off of Amazon. Most expensive watch I had purchased to that time. I tried to find out if it was authentic and how old it was. The box looked authentic but looked old and dodgy. When I opened the box it looked great. I set the watch and it would not run. I called Amazon to try to find out what was going on. Of course I spoke to a lady whose natural language was not English. Long story short I got the battery replaced, runs fine but was sold by by a jeweler in Bahamas (or some island) which did not make me feel comfortable
