IWC announces green initiatives
December 06, 2007

IWC recently opened a new boutique at The Palazzo in Las Vegas.
New York—IWC Schaffhausen has announced a myriad of environmentally friendly initiatives, making the Swiss watchmaker the latest company to go "green."

Beginning in 2007, the IWC factory will utilize hydroelectric power, and the company will buy only hybrid, diesel or other low-emission vehicles.

The company also plans to use a rainwater-utilization plant for toilet flushing and solar panels for water heating.

In addition, IWC is sponsoring the efforts of two environmentalists.

David de Rothschild is the founder of Adventure Ecology, a company that promotes education about the environment through trips that he takes to some of the world's most delicate ecosystems, such as the ice fields of the North Pole and the rainforest in Ecuador.

IWC is also sponsoring the events surrounding the release of photographer Sebastian Copeland's book, Antarctica: The Global Warning.

The book includes pictures of the photographer's trek to Antarctica, where he documented the effects of the Earth's rising temperatures.

To celebrate the release of the book, the United Nations held an exhibition at its New York headquarters. Similar exhibitions also were held in Los Angeles, and selected prints from the book will be on tour as part of the International Photography Awards Best of Show Collection.

Among its green initiatives, IWC also opened a new boutique in Las Vegas in November.

The 320-square-foot boutique is located at The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino and is one of the first boutiques to feature the brand's new Signature Furniture Series 2008.

Best Regards,
