I remember years back one of the guys from the company saying they were looking into traser type tech but that it was a lengthy process to get the right to make them.

Is this still a goal of Lumtec or are your plans to stay strictly with Superluminova?

I'd love to see this also. I bought a Nite watch for my son and it looks AWESOME at any time in the dark.
Well doesn't expect brilliant customer service from them because my Nite started to give bother stopping and starting 10 months after purchase which I thought it just a battery issue taking it to the local Goldsmiths, this didn't cure the problem but did unwittingly void their warranty costing me £45 to get them to repair a watch which was faulty.

Nite's customer service is excellent and the terms of their two year warranty are clear. You should have referred to it prior to having your watch serviced:

"Battery replacements, repair and warranty work during the term of the warranty period MUST be carried out by an authorised Nite repair centre. Failure to adhere to this requirement will invalidate your warranty and a cost will be incurred."

I'm a big fan of Nite watches, have always received great service and never experienced any problems with any of their watches.

Back to the original topic, I'd love to see LT get creative with GTLS tubes.

^The problem I see with introing Tubes is that in my opinion Lum-tec will lose their identity and what they are famous for.

As for Nite, sure I should have read their policy but at the time I thought it was battery was faulty but instead it was the movement and when I explain this to them before sending it off they totally dismiss any responsibility sighting their policy which voids warranty if you change battery. Frankly a watch which can't last 6 months without failure should be repair at their expense no matter what. And it wasn't as if I'd went to a Mickey Mouse outfit, Goldsmiths are one of the main TAG agents in the UK.

I know from the next post they are not going to pursue tritium but, wouldn't it be cool to have both? I believe Reactor does this. Lum-tec could keep their identity and add tritium. Of course it is always easy to arm chair quarterback.

There are ones which do offer both, Deep Blue, Ball and Reactor to name a few but I still prefer the traditional approach.

I remember one of the reasons for not going further with Tritium was going to be the difficulties in exporting the Tritium-equipped watches.
This is something I never knew, what do the other companies do?

Too bad. I was hoping to see mostly luminova but some hybrids also like what Ball is doing. Lumtec could have turned out some great stuff.

Clubbtraxx Is Superluinova really brighter? Certainly it is for the first half hour or so but after 1 hour my 15 year old traser tubes are outshining my brightest Lum-Tec. That's why both would have been so cool. You get that unbeatable initial brightness with better all night reliability.

I can understand not wanting to deal with the laws around traser tech. It has been demonized as a radioactive and they've gone way overboard with the restrictions but it's essentially harmless. I read you could smash a traser watch with a hammer, break every tube and inhale the gas and it's still no big deal.

Nessus, you are correct that superluminova can't win from tritium tubes overnight, but I think it doesn't fit in with the LT style/designs very well...
I do have some tritium watches myself but personally I don't like the height of the hands needed to fit the tubes.
So many people so many wishes... Luckily there already is a fair choice of tritium watches.

BTW it IS a radioactive, you would survive the breaking of a few tubes but what if you smashed a couple 1000 in say a traffic accident during transport?
Radioactive materials need to be handled with care, no matter how small.

Think about the radium paint dials of the past... nobody thought that could be dangerous.

The tiny vials are filled with hydrogen, so the gas would just float away into the atmosphere. You'd have to be trying real real hard to ingest any of it. Even if you somehow by some miracle managed to ingest it, it would disappear from your system pretty quick. Plus, its really hard to imagine breaking lots of them the way it is transported.

Believe me, I'm super paranoid about radioactive stuff, but I have to admit this is pretty safe.
