Hey people.

Looking to sell off my Lum-Tec's (M26, M27 and V1R) and a Invicta Combat watch in order to bankroll an Omega and wanted to know if would be easier or better to do it via a forum or chuck it on ebay with a reserve and let it simmer?

I figure since the watches are only getting a rotation once in a blue moon and Im still pining for a AT GMT with the 8506 movement, I sell all the valuable units I have, add a little and get the AT. Then get a G-Shock for work and a decent winder and hey presto.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I had good luck selling my M9 on WTF very quickly; no fees or any of the other hassles of online auction sites but you don't have as many safeguards, either. You'll have to become a member (I think $10 is the minimum for 1-year), though. Good luck

WTF has no listing fees and you can post as many pics as you like for free. Plus, you get the right type of traffic cruising these forums, just watch enthusiasts - not much else.

I have never bought from ebay but have bought and sold a number of watches on the forums here and on other sites. As long as you deal with people with a good reputation and history then you will be fine. I can't comment on whether or not you will get the same price though.

I normally go with the sales forums first, then eBay if it doesn't sell on the forum (which it normally does). Two reasons: You are hitting your target audience with the forums, and the eBay fees. My advice is make your price reasonable for a used watch, and make it as attractive as possible with decent photos. I also offer to cover the PayPal fees and the shipping. I add what I think it's going to cost me for those into my asking price + a little for wiggle room for haggling, so leave yourself some room to come down on your asking price.

When I am looking to buy or sell I start with the forums. It will give you a better indication of what you can expect to sell. Use the search feature to find those that want a specific sold out watch and PM them. It would take A LOT to get me to part with my M26. Yours should go quickly. the AT GMT is a great looking watch. As buyers, many people would also be more comfortable purchasing off forum sites like this one or WUS, as the interaction is a few steps closer to "face-to-face", and you can be reasonably sure that the seller is also a watch enthusiast and not a scammer or opportunist.

Agreed unless the seller only has a handful of posts. Them I'm a bit leery..

Normally, I'd say the specialist watch forums such as WTF, but I recently had an experience with a prospective purchase via another watch forum that has made me wary. Luckily, no money lost, but I could see how that may have happened so easily, with very little recourse relative to eBay. The lesson is to check reputation information, where this is available; unfortunately, it's not directly available on WTF, which is a deficiency of this forum.

Having sold several watches on both WUS and ebay, I would say it depends somewhat on the watch. I tended to get higher prices on ebay but less in my pocket after fees. Last one I sold was Omega and I needed ebay to get that 1 sold. My advice is to start with WUS (or WTF) and after a week put it on ebay also.

Also on ebay use buy it now and allow best offers.

Agree with all of the above, and one other thing is you can always ask for references on the forums. Normally the buyers will do that if the seller has a low post count, but I don't see why the seller can't do this as well.

Obviously never ever ship anything until you've got full payment! I like Postal Money orders for payment if you don't mind waiting to get the payment on more expensive watches.

That's a very timely and pertinent question Dan, one that i was going to be exploring real soon too. I was leaning towards putting 2 of my LümTec's on the WTF sales board first, then post to eBay if they didn't sell here. I think this thread confirmed that path for me as well.

Much like your plan, I'm actually saving up for a Panerai and thought i'd sell off a few of my pieces that arent getting worn. I just sold off 2 Tag Heuer's and a Baume & Mercier to an online watch sales site called Crown & Caliber. Unfortunately they dont buy LümTec's but the sale of my other watches to them couldnt have went any smoother.

Agreed with what the others have said; I feel more comfortable buying a watch from this forum or another watch forum. I find that listings here provide better information and I am not forced to pay extra for a watch to cover listings or get involved in "watching" a watch or getting into a biding war.

Bit late to reply but thanks for all the info gents (and possibly ladies - Im not sure)

I have decided the Omega would be too much trouble and heartache if I were to damage or scratch it, and cant get the funds for it anyway.

Next up to the batters plate is the new M64 Cobalt Chromium - XL and I'm going to try and sell the M27 to finance it. Basically atm I only wear it for a few days every few months. The M26 and V1R spend most of their time on the wrist with the M26 being the favorite. The M27 dial is a little busy for my tastes lately.

Good question Im actually selling off some of my Lum-tecs (M53 Bronze) and (M49) and started by posting them here in the for sale section.

I feel that all the people in this forum especially the (Lum Tec) forum deserve first crack at them.
