Hi all,

My first post here but I have a nice little collection of watches.

I've got a Rolex Submariner LV, Tag Heuer Carrera Racing Edition and a Seiko two tone Chronograph.

The Invicta Speedway 3644 has caught my eye but there seems to be conflicting information regarding the movement on the Second hand.

Does the sub dial act as the second hand like a normal Chronograph or is it the big second hand which is it?

Any clarification appreciated.

Thanks

I have the same basic watch, only in monochrome SS and a white dial.
The subdial counts the normal seconds and the large central hand is for the chrono function.

The large second hand on the newer model Speedway performs as any second hand does on any watch. The small second hand on the subdial can be stopped and started. These models do not have the Swiss quartz movement .

They are using a different movement in this model now. The Invictas with a Swiss quartz movement will allow you to stop the large second hand and advance it to zero. To the best of my knowledge there aren't making any Speedways with the Swiss quartz movement now.

I would like to have a Speedway with a Swiss quartz movement, but I haven't been able to find one.

Now I see where my confusion comes from! A watch I've been considering is being called a 5093 by the seller when, upon further study is actually a 5432. Well thank you weebee I wont be buying from someone that doesn't even know their model number. You just saved me more than 500 bucks!!! :thumbup1:

Hi Gajim,
Thanks for your detailed reply.

Just to clarify do you mean the latest models don't have the swiss quartz model so the second hand is the large one or are you saying Invicta have just switched to a Swiss Quartz so the Speedway 3644 will slowly filter back in with the small dial as the second counter?

If you don't mind a suggestion, unless your stuck on getting a Speedway, the watch you are looking at has a Japanese TMI VD 53 movement, the sub dials are the chronograph, 10th, Sec and minute for timing. The biggest complaint about this movement is that the Sec sub dial does not work or stops working. I have a Pro Diver 1772 it also uses a TMI movement, but, it is the VD 55B and perhaps a step up from the VD 53. My sub dials work ever time I've tried them and are accurate as is the time keeping on the watch. Also, the 1772 is pure eye candy and the most complimented watch I own. Like the 3644 it can be had for under $100.

However, if you want a better movement, look for an older Speedway II with the Swiss Movement, but, they will run you around $200 give or take. I don't know what model number Bill's is but you can still find 4744's with a gun metal coloring around.

And YES, the newer Speedways DO NOT have the Swiss Movement. HTH

Hi Darrin,

Thanks very much for the detailed reply, so the VD53 movement does have correct chronograph functioning then but not so reliably in your case just to clarify?

Does your VD55B have correct chronograph functioning also?

I do like the look of it as it offers Submariner look at a glance but with nice big Chrono dials, do you have any pictures of yours?

'On my wrist today' thread, page 9, a little ways down are some bad pictures of the 1772! LOL (just click on the small thumbnails to see the larger images. You'll also see a lot of other good looking watches there.)

Both the VD 53 and the VD 55b use the three sub dials to do the Chrono timings and the large center 'seconds' hand is for the time, like a wall clock. In other words, the three sub dials on these watches don't move until you press the top pusher. Hope that clears it up for you. And yes, the VD 53 may not be as reliable as the VD 55b, but that is based on what I've read in reviews and forums.

MLAM I think the3dgm has answered your question.

I bought a Speedway, it had the Japanese movement. I sent it back because I wanted one with the Swiss movement that worked correctly.

Some vendors may still have a few Speedways with the Swiss movement in stock, but they will be in the $200 range, if you can find them.
