I inherited this watch & is non functional, I’ve sent it out twice for estimates & on average I’m hearing $525.00. I do not know if this is good or bad, I’m seeking help in finding an economical shop that also will do repair properly in the US?

This one is a Grade 313, Model 7, 16 size Elgin circa 1922. That $500 figure probably isn't too far off for a full restoration. A clean & service should come in a fair bit lower. I dont really have any suggestions for repair facilities in Illinois except for maybe the Illinois Watch Co in Quincy. Possibly others here have a better suggestion.

I hand delivered my inoperative / inherited pocket watch (1908 Illinois Watch Company) to these people. As I waited the owner looked it over, manipulated it, then announced he can fix it. His estimate was $140. About 10 days later he had it running.

As I want a period correct case for it he's still holding the watch, looking for what's available.

These two sites both refer to the same company (Southeast Alabama).

Personally I think that 525 dollars is crazy. It sounds to me that these people are not even interested in repairing the watch. Just from looking at it how bad can it be. Maybe a broken staff or broken mainspring or a broken roller jewel. All easy fixes for an experienced watch maker. You take it apart look it over real good and clean it. Then make the necessary repairs. The watch itself is not worth even close to the 525 dollars that is quoted. Keep looking you will eventually find someone who will repair the watch for a lot less than that. I get that it is passed on to you, so it has a some meaning for you.

I like the Abe Lincoln. Nice watch from Illinois watch company that you do not see a lot of.
