Hey Guys

I know we all have an affinity for time machines but how far back do our tastes go?

Retro styles have, astonishingly to me, been in since around the later part of the 90s if memory serves me well. Very evident in cars it seems with the return of chrome and deja vu designs in dashboards. But watches have not been immune to the return to bygone days it seems.

Contrasting the contemporary looks of the Aqua Terra

has been the Railmaster, inspired I believe by a railway clock.

Very tough call, Zin. Just based on your two examples alone I can't really decide. I'd love to own both pieces someday although I do tend to be drawn to chronos and divers like Triton. Another great comparison (for me anyways) is the chrono versions of the AT and the RM. In some ways they are quite similar, while also being quite different at the same time.

I think for me I could go either way as long as the the watch has nice clean, symmetrical look. watches that are to busy just don't do it for me, regardless if they are an old school design or a new school design. I think that is one of the reasons that I lost the love for the speedy moonphase. Just a little bit to much going on.

The chrono versions would be a tough call for me Dave though if I was going for a chrono, it would be the Speedy or De Ville Chronoscope or Rattrapante. However in respect of the chronometers, I'd have to be in the mood to feel that the Railmaster is a keeper. Perhaps seeing it in the flesh may change things. :confused1:

Enjoy your day pal

Hmmmmmm....You decide. I'm wearing a 1950's mechanical Benrus wristalarm, I'm writing bills out with a fountain pen, and I just took the battery charger off my 1961 all original VW Bug!!!!!!!!
Pfft, you are so modern. I just checked the time on my sundial, I'm writing a letter with a quill, and then I'm going to feed the buggy horses.

Do you grow your own veggies and raise your own cattle for your " PETA " feasts too?

I like retro designs (see picture). I wish I was around for the roaring 50's: The Rat Pack, Vegas at it's finest, big cars. I really don't see the "vintage" in the Railmaster, although I guess it is more retro than the AQ.

That's interesting. The first time I tried on the AT I thought it had a bit of retro flair with the arrow minute hand and curved crystal. More so than its closest competition (?) the Rolex Date, which has remained fairly unchanged for the past 50 years.

I'm definitely old school as much as possible. Outside of the internet, tech gadgets do nothing for me. Don't play video games (age 33), and have never sent a text message. As for watches, I have at least 10 vintage Americans. My SMP 2250.50 seems to get the most wrist time though

I reject your question and substitute my own . . .

or words approximately to that effect, cheerfully stolen from Mythbusters.

Both of the above designs are retro, both direct copies of 1950s Omega designs.

Now this is modern:

And while this has some age on it, the is no mistaking this for any period prior to the last 30 years:

Vintage design is better represented by these:

You could buy any of the above within a month by searching Ebay and other sites

These are the real choices you have when considering Omega designs, modern versus vintage.
