It's raining here, again, as usual, so it seems to be a good day to sit at the puter and create some hate, discontent and turmoil so our highly paid mods can earn their keep. Actually, I would prefer that the homage haters either stay away or hold in their vitreol but I've been here long enough to realize that someone won't be able to control himself. :crying:

First some caveats:
(1) I abhor fakes. When I found that I had a fake Montblanc I took it to the range and used it for target practice. Another good purpose for a gun.
(2) I've paid my dues to Rolex, I have 5 of them and my wife has one and we may get more.
(3) I've heard the cliches about slave labor.

TooDah, here it is !

I paid $13.59 for this including shipping from China. I've had it two days and it is keeping nearly perfect time and working very well in every respect. I was playing with the date when this picture was taken so that's why the date is off. I think it is fascinating that a watch this good can be made and shipped for that price.
Let the hate begin.

I'd put this in the 'acceptable' category. Although the design screams 'Rolex', there has never been a Rolex Pepsi Submariner, so I'd say you are in the clear.

Good watch; thanks for sharing. ;o)
The watch is hideous. Wear it in good health
C'mon, Presa canary; what didja expect for a cheap Chinese beater? I'd say it's pretty nice, considering the price and all.

Quality costs money. At this price range, that's pretty nice.
The mods have to be pretty disappointed that they didn't get to do any of their mod stuff.
I'm sure they will soon enough, especially if someone dares post a blatant copy of an already established brand with the brand's name replaced with some other name (think Parnis or Alpha). I know this is within the rules, as well as within the established definition of 'homage'. That said, it's still wrong in my book. I know it's legal, but then again so is going to a dead soldier's funeral and stamping on the American flag whilst bellowing like an ox about how God hates everything. Legal does not make right and illegal does not make wrong - just ask Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King.

Fair warning: If any of you do this, I will call you out. I'll be respectful, but I will call you on it. If you want a homage, at least get one that doesn't directly replicate an already extant design. I can accept the homage in the OP, as that's a blend of two designs (GMT Master and Submariner) done in a way which creates a new idea. That's the key - homages create something new; replicas do not.

Heh...I guess the above paragraph just started a flame war. Hopefully we can all keep it civil. Although I have no mod / admin authority here, I can and will lead by example. Civility. That's all I ask.

What watch is being paid homage to?:confused1:
If you mean the OP, it's a blend of the GMT Master II (the Pepsi part) and the Submariner (the markings on the bezel).
OK, I'm not even gonna comment on that pic of the two Subs and four...ahem...'homages'. I won't even go there.

I'll say the Tag Heuer is pretty sweet. At least Tag made the effort to alter the design to create something new. So, there's that.

Thanks for your opinions, all of you. I'm keeping an open mind, but I refuse to let my brains fall out. ;o)
OK, this thread seems to have run it's course and everyone is to be commended for their adult behavior. but, one more thing. I'm not sure anyone noticed, though SemperEadem came close, that the watch does not have R---x hands ?
I didn't notice, but thanks for bringing it up. Yeah, that Loki is an acceptable homage in any case. ;o)
