Hi,

I have been lurking for quite a while now. I was looking for my first really good watch and had considered mainly Tags. After getting to know about Ball, I realized that this is a watch company which really appeals to me (the other one being Seiko!). Most swiss watch companies have long histories and associations with aviation, diving and racing. Which is fine, but hardly something I am doing!

Well I'm an engineer (mechnical by training) working in a petroleum related industry. I'm surprised there isn't more engineers here, going by the old thread about occupation :001_smile: I suppose that this explains my shortlist below... I am looking at 3 models.

1. EH Classic 1 or Magnate, white faced
2. EMII
3. EII, white faced

I like that EH Classic due to its rugged look, the detail on the dial, and a smaller size of 40mm. I do have a thin wrist (around 6.2"). However, it seems rather thick. Does anyone have problems wearing it under the sleeve?

I would have love the EMII divers as well that they are just HUGE for me. The EMII has a nice balance of complication and simplicity. And it is thinner at only 12.5mm. The EII is also within consideration due to the size and attractive price.

What is the service interval for Ball watches?

I'm out-stationed now and I am flying back to my hometown Singapore like 1 hour later haha. I will be poping down to AD to try them on. Are there any recommended AD by Singapore members? Pardon me if I can't log on for the next couple of days.

Hi Cubicsquare,

If you search some of our older threads, the Singaporean Ball owners have mentioned a few places. I was in Singapore a week ago and saw a great selection at Watches of Switzerland (Vivo City) and Cortina at Raffles City.

All the best in your quest!

Hi and welcome to our forum. I am glad you discovered Ball watches. They are unique and are extremely well built, and the fit and finish is specatcular.

I too have a small wrist...6.4 inches. I am a big guy with a little wrist...at get togethers, I will try on a friend's watch and they are always amazed at the size of my wrist, which is smaller than my gut:)

The Magnate is a little higher than the others at 14.1 mm.

I wear an EMII Moonphase which features the 40mm EMII case that is on the classic. They are 13mm thick, and I find them just perfect.

My Moonphase is my regular going to work watch and it works well in any situation. I dressed it up with a Don Ginsler Calf strap and a Ball deployant.

As Bullosa pointed out, plenty of great threads on Singpaore AD's...good luck, and let us know what you decide.

This is the only wrist shot I have...it is with the original band...I really should take some new ones, but it gives you an idea how the 40x 13 works on a guy witha small wrist.

I also wear the 43mm NightTrain quite often, which wile larger, is quite flat at 10.7mm.

Depending on usage, most folks are average 5-8 years on ETA movements for service. If the watch is used in real adverse conditions, probably on the order 3/4 years.

CS, welcome to WTF Ball forum. :001_smile: Answer to your Qs:

1) I believe the recommended service interval for Ball watches is 3 to 5 years.

2) There are a number of ADs in Singapore. Some of them as mentioned are Watches of Switzerland, Vincent Watch, All Watches, Kronometry, etc. For a full list with addresses, please visit www.ballwatch.com

Hope u do find a Ball watch that you like. The EH Classic is a nice watch! :thumbup1:

Welcome cubicsquare! Thanks for lurking! Hope when you try your shortlist on, one of them speaks to your heart.

Good point about Engineer's by occupation. Although I've spotted a few others participating on another board. Also many in the Railroad industry are attraced to BALL for obvious reasons and it doesn't surprise me that they love the ruggedness of the 5-7,00G's shock.

Even though I know that the Fireman series is relating to the Men in the Railway occupation, it doesn't stop me from introducing the BALL name to any Firemen I meet. Which is quite a few as my wife's sister is engaged to one and his parties are always a Fireman's - Police {RCMP} GTG.

Many of them wear daily beater's like Timex Triathalon's, Casio G-Shocks which have digital displays with Indigo lights as a key component. Most of them aren't aware of H3 watches until you tell them and boy do they convert fast. Because they are extreme WIS just like us!

I saw one of my RCMP buddies out of uniform and he rotates through all the various Omega Divers (SMP, PO, Broadarrow, etc). However, he wouldn't dare wear one of these "on the job". I'll send him an e-mail to look into BALL!

I just reached home after a long flight whew... Thanks for all the replies!

Regarding the shock resistance, does anyone has a link on how they qualify the watches? I know I have seen it somewhere, but I just can't find it now. It has something to do with ISO specs.

I'm going downtown tomorrow, so maybe I can get to try some watches :D
Hopefully if I do manage to buy one in the near future, I will try to get some pictures up as well. My DSLR has been dormant for quite a while

oh... I just bought the EMII Moonphase, white face. It's been an eventful few days, my computer was infected with some virus/weird script the moment I log in at home AFTER I touched down. I'll post some pics tomorrow when I get everything sorted out... As you can see the timing is not normal...

I agree...the Moonphase in person is spectacular...to screw in the crown is a magnificent experience. To see the Moon is surreal, especially if you wake up around 4:20 or so. In fact, I will wear it tonite when I get back.

Much congratulations on your purchase. My Moonie is on as well. I am glad you found a Ball that speaks to you and you could not have made a better choice. Can you start a new thread if you can, so it doesn't get buried here and we can all gush:001_tt1:

Well done.
