Some 2 weeks ago I ordered a Timex Easy Reader, together with a 20mm NATO strap. Today the watch arrived, but unfortunately the lugs were 18mm and not 20mm-so I basically ordered a bigger strap by mistake, which should arrive in 2 weeks time. Now the question is, is there any way that I could try and squeeze the 20mm strap into the 18mm lugs or is this impossible to do so?

I've heard that rubber straps could be squeezed to fit into smaller lugs (for example a 20mm band into 19mm lugs), but I'm not entirely sure about NATO straps...

Should I try to do a bit of DIY modifying on the straps or should I just send them back the minute they arrive? Cheers!

Yeah this is so ultimately I wouldn't go through the hassle of sending it back and waiting another month for the thing to get shipped. Maybe I'll try and force it in, since a nylon NATO strap could be bent and stretched a bit, unlike leather straps. (hopefully!)
