Let me start by saying I have never been a Rolex guy. I don't own a diving watch and Rolex styling has never done it for me.

That was until recently.

While browsing at a large local AD a while back I came across a Rolex I can't get out of my mind. I have tried to find it on the Rolex site as well as surfing around on-line but I can't seem to find it.

Part of the problem is that I don't know what model it is. It isn't a Submariner, nor is it a Daytona. It may be a date-just.

What struck me about this watch was the dial. It had a very traditional "Sun Burst" pattern to the dial. Unlike any Rolex dial I had ever seen. I could find the model with the "Concentric Circles" on the Rolex website, but no reference to a sun burst dial.

The AD didn't know anything about the watch ("They call that sunburst? Oh..."). The AD said it was a new style he knew nothing about.

So tell me all about it. Are there more then one sunburst model available? Color choices? Model numbers? "Extra rare" models I should look for?

I assume I will be a one Rolex kind of guy, most of their models don't sing to me. With that in mind, I want it to be the right Rolex.

Thanks in advance...

Dave

BTW- Please post any relevant pictures!

Did it have a metal bracelet or a leather strap?

If it was a metal bracelet, then it might have been a DJ or I believe there is also an Air-Kings with the circular dial.

You might have seen a Cellini if it was on a strap. There is a model with Rolex branding and concentric circles in the dial.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust Mens Watch 116233-BKSBRJ

THAT is the one! I wonder why it isn't listed on their website. (maybe it is and it is just hard to find...). Thanks for finding it along with the model number.

That is identical to the one I saw. When I searched ebay I found others similar (including the second one pictured) but not the one pictured above.

Are there other dial colors available?

With MSRP of around $8000, what can I expect to pay at an AD? Anyone have an idea of what one of these would sell for in used but excellent condition?

Sorry for so many questions...

Rolex doesn't have 1/10th of their offerings on their website....the idea is they want you to go to an authorized dealer and check 'em out

That model is fairly new and may be tough to find pre-owned.

45wheelgun,

Discounting is the exception and not the rule with Rolex. Its depends on the model (its demand and its scarcity) along with the geography you are in. I know where I am in San Francisco there are only a couple ADs and there is no discounting at all (but they will ship out of state for sales tax and offer free extended warrantys). I've heard that DateJusts can sometimes be had with a 10% discount, but it hasn't happened to me.

We have a few forum members in Ohio. They can help you better understand the local market where you live.

And here is a Rolex discounted 37% if you like the watch

Take a look at this post:

http://watchtalkforums.info/forums/showthread.php?t=35

It has a scan of all the dials available. If you see ones you like, write down the number & take it to the AD. They should have the hardcopy book with all those pages in it...
