I was wondering if anyone could tell my anything about this watch? It's a Hamilton "Wadsworth"...
14 karat "Gold Filled"
Movement 401
H52643
19 Jewels
Much to my surprise it's in perfect working condition, the band I think was replaced, it seems too new and fairly cheap.
I was wondering if anyone had any information about this specific watch? Possibly a value? I brought it to a jeweler who said he knew little and said it was worth about $50 on eBay maybe.
Still not working but a photo is pretty much required.
Wadsworth is the name of the watch case maker. Hamilton contracted out their cases and Wadsworth was one of their biggest suppliers. They made the cases for literally hundreds of Hamilton models from the 1920's right up until the 1970's.
Sweet. The Stanley is a very desirable model. The 401 movement has collector value on it's own. It's certainly worth a great deal more than the $50 your jeweler guessed at. Read these posts.
BTW, the link in your previous post just sends me to the google drive home page rather than to an actual photo. It would be great to see this watch and the condition it's in. It is a scarce model with only 1200 made in white gold fill.
I'm glad you got your info. I went through the catalogs twice and missed Stan both times ! :cursing:
"Wadsworth" refers to the company that manufactured the watch case for the Hamilton factory.
It only showed up in the 1932, 33, and 34 catalogs. The sticker price was $65.00 (in 1932 $65 had the buying power that $1,100 has today)
Which means the Stanley was a pretty respecable watch back in the day.

Dave- As a side note, it probably depends on which search engine we're using. That docs google link took me right to the photo.
I took some more photos of the watch and posted them on my Flickr. I knew the jeweler I took it too had no idea what he was talking about. He did recognize it was gold-fill but I the fact he wouldn't even buy it seemed strange.
Hmmm...
I see a direct link to Flickr.
I Click the link and I see 12 photos of a (very nice) familiar watch.
Absolutely nothing on or about any video. I only found it by accident when I clicked on your screen name. This was my first real visit to Flickr, so I'm not sure if that is how the site is supposed to work or not (I use Photobucket).
The dial on this one looks original and undamaged. Don't do anything to it. There is also collector value in that even though it may look old and dingy to the average person. Your grandfather had excellent taste.
