Has everyone else noticed that the typically referenced Hamilton serial number lists do not include the 987F or 987A movements? I also wonder why the 987 is dated after the 987E. Am I missing something? ;)

This list that I usually use is located here:

Hamilton Horology

This list shows the 987F production as separate from the 987.

I think that beginning in 1937 with the discontinuance of the 987-E, Hamilton serials started with letters rather than numbers. The first character of the serial number on a 987A is the letter "O", as opposed to the numeral "0". However, you are correct in that these are listed as 987, not 987A. But these really are Grade 987A. See page 22 of the list.
