Of the three men most responsible for developing the electric watch, John Van Horn and Phillip Biemiller both received degrees in physics from Penn State University.
The third member of the team, James Reese, held a degree in accounting but was told by future Hamilton president Arthur Sinkler, when taking a night class that he was wasting his time since he already knew everything Sinkler was teaching.
Sinkler hired Reese for the Hamilton R&D department and ended up receiving more patents than anyone in Hamilton history.
